Now that we can't use Joseph (something similar)

We had decided on Joseph for our little boy quite early on but kept the name to ourselves as we wanted it as a surprise.
I have just discovered some friends of ours have just had a little boy and used it.
We are gutted as we had our heart set on the name and we've been calling him this for months and only have a couple of weeks to go.
I can't find anything else we like as much or agree on.
Can anyone think of any similar ideas to Joseph?

Jacob

PinkyPonkyLittleDonkey · 26/07/2024 15:09

If you love Joseph I’d stick with that.

Kitkat1523 · 26/07/2024 15:10

Stick with it

vinnabawl · 26/07/2024 15:11

Aw just use it!!! Our close friends used our chosen baby name and had the baby first. Didn’t impact on our decision to use it at all!!

Joseph is a lovely name 😊 And it may be one of them goes by Joe or Joey etc. so there’s a difference there!

EineReiseDurchDieZeit · 26/07/2024 15:12

There's no reason why he can't also be Joseph, this modern obsession with no one sharing the same name is odd compared to when I was growing up

StrongandNorthern · 26/07/2024 15:14

Call him 'Joseph'.
It's your name for him.
It's how you already think of him.

Stick with it

Do you think? Dh suggested we use it anyway but I thought that just wouldn't be the right thing to do now we know they've picked it.

I would still use it.

But I have a Joseph Samuel. Would Samuel work?

NotSureWhatUsernameToChoose · 26/07/2024 15:16

Josef

I’d stick with Joseph.

But if not…

I would stick to Joseph.
Doesn't matter they picked it too, for all you know, maybe you won't even be seeing those friends that much in the future?
It sounds to me your heart is set and Joseph. And it's such a beautiful name, too.

ILikeDinosaurs · 26/07/2024 15:19

Joshua?

SerenityNowInsanityLater · 26/07/2024 15:19

Definitely stick with Joseph. You may not even be friends with these people by the time your Joseph is a young man. Your heart has been set on it. Don’t betray your heart’s desire.

PurBal · 26/07/2024 15:20

Definitely stick with Joseph. I think you’ll regret it otherwise.

DramaAlpaca · 26/07/2024 15:21

Just use it. Don't overthink it.

I have nephews with the same name….and great neices with the same name…..it’s no big deal

Persipan · 26/07/2024 15:23

Just call him Joseph. I can't see the issue at all.

Grumpyoldpersonwithcats · 26/07/2024 15:23

Another vote for Joshua - but can't see a problem with sticking with Joseph tbh.

Meadowwild · 26/07/2024 15:23

Joshua is lovely
Jonah is cute
Josiah
James
Jacob

Other classic biblical names: Samuel, Daniel, Matthew, Gabriel, Raphael, Zachariah, Nathaniel, Luke, Noah, Benjamin.

Do any of these appeal?

If you love Joseph I’d stick with that.

This. There's Joe, Joey, Joseph, J all from that name.

joligood · 26/07/2024 15:25

I think I might stick to Joseph then if people don't see it as an issue.
I only started the thread 15 minutes ago and now that weights lifted.
Joseph it still is then.

I do agree with this. When DS2 was born 5 boys were born within six months of him in the neighbourhood (same coffee morning/playgroup mum crowd) all with the same name, and it happened to be DS2's middle name too. When we moved, no one had that name but two boys in DS1's class had the same name as him.

Now, we know none of those families and it doesn't matter at all.

Merrow · 26/07/2024 15:26

Two couples in our antenatal group used the same name and there was no drama, if you like the name go for it.

ThePoshUns · 26/07/2024 15:27

I'd still use it. It's a friend not family.
