i'm expecting a baby girl soon, and i really love the name stevie. as you probably already guessed, after stevie nicks. i was having doubts about using it as a full name, as it definitely seems like a boys name, and obviously her namesake is actually called stephanie. i'm not a fan of stephanie though. can stevie be a full name?

Before I clicked on your thread, my thought for a girl that is so cool. I am also a fan of Fleetwood Mac.

As an actual name, yes why not?

Plump82 · 18/07/2024 16:09

I love it. Not a huge Fleetwood Mac fan so for me I don't associate it with them. I just think its a fab name!

Procrastinates · 18/07/2024 16:10

I wouldn't. Stevie is only called that because she couldn't pronounce her own name so it's a naturally occuring nick name. It seems really odd to give what is effectively a mispronunciation to your child as their actual name. I would give her name to fall back on and maybe use Stevie as a middle name incase she doesn't want to spend enternity being presumable to be male.

One of my DD's 5yo friends is called Stevie - I definitely think of it as a girls name. Very cool!

PerkyMintDeer · 18/07/2024 16:11

An old school acquaintance has called her daughter Stevie, she’s just over a year old. I also taught one, she’d be early/mid 20s now. So people do use it in its own right.

I prefer it as a nickname for Stephanie, Stephania, Stefania.

Or for something like Stella Violet, Esther Vivienne,

I’d personally probably use Stefani and then it has both Stevie and Gwen as influences!

Catandsquirrel · 18/07/2024 16:12

I really like Stevie and don't usually care for '-ie nicknames as full names'. It's about the only one I personally think is fab on its own!

Stephanie is a perfectly lovely name but not to my taste either so I'd go for Stevie!

I suspect that Stevie Wonder would disagree with you.

cupcaske123 · 18/07/2024 16:22

I love the name Stevie. Immediately made me think of Stevie Nicks - great voice and band!

NeedToKnow101 · 18/07/2024 16:25

Stella Vivienne is a beautiful, classy name and Stevie an adorable, sassy nickname. I think you may be on to a winner there!

If only I had a baby daughter to name haha!

izzydrizzy04 · 18/07/2024 16:30

@TwoLeftSocksWithHoles honestly never even crossed my mind, but i always thought stevie wonder should've been called steve wonder anyways. stevie seems too "cute" to be a man's name.

Steve Wonder 😂😂

izzydrizzy04 · 18/07/2024 16:32

@PerkyMintDeer i was dithering between stella and estelle, but since my name is isabelle and i don't want my child's name to rhyme with mine i'm thinking stella. i like stella with vivienne as a middle name.

I love it. Ofcourse it can be used as a full name, not just a nickname. I've never known or heard of a male Stevie, but know of a few female stevie's

He was a cute child star initially…known as “Lil Stevie Wonder”. Real name Stevland Morris. Steve is sort of a middle aged man name so I can see why they went with Stevie when he was a kid. Coincidentally my friend’s husband is Stevie and we have an Uncle Stevie in the family…I think Stevie is sort of a unisex name like Frankie, Charlie, Bobbie.

Purplecatshopaholic · 18/07/2024 16:36

Love it. Cool name for a girl.

VeryQuaintIrene · 18/07/2024 16:37

Also if you don't know her, the writer Stevie Smith, vv cool. Lovely name with great associations all round, IMO.

RhetoricalRectangle · 18/07/2024 16:42

If an older person has this name, I assume boy

For a young child, I'd suspect girl.

Quite trendy!

deliwoman1 · 18/07/2024 16:44

I've always liked Stevie for a girl! Stevie Nicks/Stevie Smith are cool namesakes and Stevie is Schitts Creek is a fun character too.

Devilsmommy · 18/07/2024 16:45

My cousin is called Stevie. It's a boys name to me but many names are used for both so🤷

ifIwerenotanandroid · 18/07/2024 16:48

I knew a girl called Stevie back in the 1960s, so it has some history. She was in my school & I don't remember anyone saying what her real name was so I assumed it really was Stevie.

izzydrizzy04 · 18/07/2024 17:02

just looked up stevie smith and that's another great association! i'm putting stella vivienne on the birth certificate, but she'll be stevie to anyone else
