Is Zaffy a name?

Stuck for a boys name we both like. Love Raffy and Ziggy and a few others but I'm not convinced. Is Zaffy a name, have I just made that up? I quite like it! Any other similar sounding names you could recommend? Thoughts?

No it's a not a name but that doesn't seem to stop some people from naming their kids all sorts of made up wonders.

This.

For what it's worth, Safi is an Arabic male name - same root as Safiya. Although I suspect it might get confused with the girl's name Saffy for Saffron in the UK. There's also a Hebrew (Old Testament) male name Zimri which I always thought was kind of cool - might scratch the Zaffy-Ziggy itch.

i think spelling it with an "i" at the end is nice because then it looks less like an adjective on paper. Zafi is cute and so unique :)

goneveryquiet · 18/07/2024 07:57

I always think we need to remember we are naming adults, not cute babies.

Muffin101 · 18/07/2024 07:59

Zaffy is genuinely absolutely terrible, you can’t do that to a child, let alone the future adult they’ll become! Baby name fog must have taken you, op 😂
the suggestion of zephyr is a good one I think.

usernother · 18/07/2024 08:00

It sounds like saffy. Short for saffron. But Zaffy is not a name.

BeautyGoesToBenidorm · 18/07/2024 08:58

Jesus wept, please don't burden your future adult with this.

Z names are popular where I live. The ones showing in darkgreener (pp upthread) seem quite normal.

izzydrizzy04 · 18/07/2024 16:06

zafir is an arabic boys name you might like.

Gillyyy · 19/07/2024 18:22

I know a little Zebedee who goes by Zeb which is similar. Agree with PP that the spelling Zafi looks better.

It's a lemon scented hand soap. 🧼

DD has a friend at nursery called Zaffy, not sure if it's short for something or how it's spelt, just heard 4yo talk about her. If it is a name, it seems to be a girls name, in this instance at least.

RogueFemale · 22/07/2024 02:04

Please do consider the dignity of your adult son. You may like silly names such Zaffy for your baby, - which is fine - but give your son a formal and adult name on his birth certificate.

HolyPeaches · 22/07/2024 02:19

My friend has a Zephyr, he gets called Zephy (Zeffy). Really cute, suits him.

Xander (Zander) is also nice!

RedOnyx · 26/07/2024 10:08

If I heard it out and about I would assume it's short for Zafira but that's a girl's name so... 🙃

Beth216 · 26/07/2024 10:22

I'd stick with Raffy and give him the name Raphael or Rafferty.

Zaffy sounds cute but isn't a name and adding an i doesn't make it one either, just sounds like you're trying to be 'younique'. It also doesn't really have a longer name with a Zaff sound that you can use it as a nickname for.

You could call him Zachary and use the nn Zaffy though even though Zac is the most obvious nn - particularly as Ziggy is a nn for Zachary and sounds nothing like it either.

Daisybuttercup12345 · 30/07/2024 21:19

Yes Daffy Duck.

JaxiiTaxii · 30/07/2024 21:24

I know a Zeph
And a Saffi

Both girls.

Raffy & Zaffy are both mega twee, but as that's fashionable they will be fine.

WashableVelvet · 30/07/2024 21:25

I think you’re thinking of Xavi, which is pronounced Zavvy (v similar!) and is short for Xavier.

peaceinourtime · 31/07/2024 15:34

It sounds like the name of a zebra
