What do you think of Brontë?

It means "Thunder"

Love Brontë but...
It doesn't go with Esme and it's a bit pretentious!
However I have an Esme and her (imaginary) sisters are:
Ivy
Violet
Thea
Estee
Mary (!)

I love Brontë, gorgeous name

I think Esmé and Brontë is nice but the ending might feel a bit matchy

esme and Brontë is a bit too like Emily Brontë

Saskia.

Enko · 04/07/2024 22:20

love Bronte and feel it goes well with Esme

UltramarineViolet · 04/07/2024 22:28

I don't dislike Bronte but feel like it has different vibe to Esme

I much prefer Esme and consider it to much more timeless than Bronte

Other names that I think have a more similar feel to Esme:
Harriet
Blythe
Phoebe
Imogen
Beatrice/Beatrix
Helena
Freya

Rosa
Dora
Tess

Lola
Beatrice
Flora
Stella
Libby

I love the name Brontë but it's doesn't go with Esme.
Esme and Harper (another literary leaning)
Esme and Viola (or violet)
Esme and Thora (also means thunder)

Rosa

ChocoChocoLatte · 05/07/2024 00:11

What about Blythe ?

Similar vibe and goes well with Esme.

Orders76 · 05/07/2024 00:16

And Emily

Eeeden · 05/07/2024 01:28

Esme and Joy

I don't like Brontë. I'd not be happy telling people it was my name.

KirstenBlest · 05/07/2024 13:05

Does it really mean Thunder or did you get that from nameberry?
Brontë family - Wikipedia

Makes me think of 'brwnt', which is Welsh for dirty or unkind.

I just checked and it actually does in a roundabout way! I was surprised too.

It's still a surname in my opinion though and definitely doesn't go with Esme.

Stripesandchecks543 · 05/07/2024 13:14

Suria
Maud
Miranda or Miri

TheStateOfTheArt · 05/07/2024 13:15

It’s nice but a bit too different perhaps?

Esme and Sophia would be lovely I think.
