Like Mila Kunis!

What do you think?

I know a Spanish lady who is Mila - short for Milagros (miracle). Think it’s lovely.

CelesteCunningham · 25/06/2024 16:03

I like it.

There have been lots of threads about it over the years, which tend to centre around the pronunciation of the i - some rhyme it with eel, others with aisle and a few with ill. So if that would bother you I'd look elsewhere (my first guess would be like Mila Kunis).

Sundaysunshine21 · 25/06/2024 16:05

I like the way it looks written down but I’ve never been sure of pronunciation. Is it Mee-la or My-la or something else?

Sunnnybunny72 · 25/06/2024 16:06

Dull

BumpLoading · 25/06/2024 16:16

I like it, know of a couple.

i always think of the song Milla by Goldfinger if you need a song to play her 😄

AngelDelightButNotStrawberry · 25/06/2024 16:33

Not a fan personally. It’s a name that blends in with all the Mylas and Myas.. Always paired with the filler middle names Rose/Grace/May which makes it dull.

timoteigirl · 25/06/2024 16:46

Like it. But I also like Smilla and Ludmila and Milena too.

Mittens1717 · 25/06/2024 17:05

Not keen, I prefer Mia for some reason

DuchessOfSausage · 25/06/2024 17:22

Samey with all the Mia, Maya, Lila etc

Moreteaandchocolate · 25/06/2024 17:26

Yes, it’s lovely. I think it’s in the same current trend as Mia / Lila etc but a bit different - so a nice compromise of a name that sounds current and fits in with this generation, but is unlikely to be replicated in the child’s class / year group at school.

dottyp0104 · 25/06/2024 17:36

I love it! My niece is called Mila

Heavenlyhoumous · 25/06/2024 17:54

I like it, sounds current to me, would pronounce it mee lah.

Zoflorabore · 26/06/2024 07:03

I like the pronunciation Meela rather than Myla.

one of our little neighbours is called Myla and every time I hear it I think it sounds like Myra which is an obvious no no. This version sounds quite harsh but the Meela sounding is way nicer though you would probably have to explain the pronunciation a lot which would drive me crazy.

PurpleChrayn · 26/06/2024 13:48

It's the female equivalent of "Theo" for tryhard but unimaginative middle class parents.

DuchessOfSausage · 26/06/2024 14:35

Theo is everywhere though. I'd say it was the female equivalent of Milo.

SemperIdem · 27/06/2024 00:40

I do really like it, but think it will age like Sharon and Tracy.

Meela is how it’s pronounced phonetically, are people really pronouncing it “myla”?

Zoflorabore · 27/06/2024 01:17

@SemperIdem hi, yes that’s exactly how this little girl’s name is pronounced and it sounds so harsh, especially as she’s a twin and the other one has a really pretty name and it just doesn’t “go”

it’s also spelt as Myla.

JC03745 · 27/06/2024 01:22

Whenever this name comes up, I read it as Milia- a common skin condition that causes small white bumps (cysts) under the surface of your skin.

If you like it, go for it though.

Same! Maybe we are related..! Her full name is Milena. I think it’s beautiful. They also call her Mimi (pronounced me-me and Mila is Me-la)

JC03745 · 27/06/2024 01:27

@hazandduck You have a nice called Milena?
Best not to look up Malena/Melena then- which is pronounced exactly the same! 😬

Edited

Ha yes I have heard of that! But obviously not mentioned it when introduced to my gorgeous niece. Milena is actually Mila Kunis’ full name.

Lila is Lie-la, Milo is My-lo (I think), so yes.

Yeah, it's generic.
