Here are the top names. The baby girl is half Spanish-American with a Spanish last name.

Javiera
Julia
Maria or Martina

Thank you for the help. I have no idea which to pick!

Maria x

FloofPaws · 23/06/2024 14:54

Javiera- Maria is soooo common

GummiBeari · 23/06/2024 15:00

We had Javier picked out for a boy, and I love that name. Javi for a nickname. But Javiera might work for a girl, and she can still be called Javi for short.

I love Maria as well, but it is very common. Martina means warrior, which is rad.

I like Julia!

Pemba · 23/06/2024 15:07

Julia is lovely and classic, works both in Spanish and English. But would it be pronounced 'Hoolia' in Spanish and might the little girl be confused at 2 versions of her name, or might she take it in her stride?

Maria is also gorgeous, the trouble is in Spanish there are just so many of them! It's much rarer as an English name.

Martina is fine, nothing wrong with it.

Javirera, not heard of it before tbh, although I've heard the male version. It's fine.

Julia

Julia is lovely. We live in the US and would pronounce it Julia with a J sound. Her Spanish speaking relatives who she will see every now and then will probably call her Hoolia.

But we would pronounce Javiera as Haviera. I know a Javiera from South America. Not sure if the name is more common there than in Spain.

There are still many Marias in the US. But far less common than in Spain!

The next names down the list are Claudia, Salma, and Galicia.

Julia!

Galicia 😍👌

Oh, interesting you like that one. 🙂

Her ancestors on her father’s side are from the Galicia region of Spain, and we thought it might work as a girl’s name. I’m an Irish-Scottish American, so it would also be a nod to Gaelic ancestry. Or is it strange to have your first name be an autonomous mini-country?

Julia or Claudia

OVienna · 23/06/2024 16:43

Second Galicia.

Chewbecca · 23/06/2024 16:44

Marina for me, then Claudia.

I do like Maria too and although I think of it as a very common Spanish name, it really isn't common at all in the UK.

malachitegreen · 23/06/2024 16:44

Martina! unusual, pretty, flexible.

Chewbecca · 23/06/2024 16:45

Sorry, Martina, not Marina. (Though both nice IMO!)

Twoshoesnewshoes · 23/06/2024 16:54

Julia and Claudia

spilltheteapot · 23/06/2024 16:55

Martina! Beautiful and unusual in the UK but everyone would know how to say and spell it.

paasll · 23/06/2024 17:00

I’d go for Martina.

CheeseSandwichRiskAssessment · 23/06/2024 17:04

Julia, one of my favourite names ever

Pemba · 23/06/2024 17:23

I still like Julia best.

  1. Julia
  2. Claudia
Would that be said as cloud-ia or claw-dia?

Husband just told me that he thought about it and he doesn’t like Claudia nor Salma. So the names on the table that we both like are:

Javiera
Julia
Martina
Maria
Galicia

Galicia is gorgeous! And your heritage just makes it even more perfect.
