Camille Linnea Manon

Hi,

After many years of trying, IVF and several losses I am now 32 weeks pregnant with our baby girl. DH is French and I am Norwegian.
We have decided on giving baby girl a French first name, mainly as my parents now live in the UK so we will spend less time in Norway (a week a year max) and also because we are more liked to move to France at some point than Norway. Obviously we also has a French surname so this will be more cohesive.

We have agreed on either 1 or 2 middle names as I do want a nod to baby girls Norwegian heritage in her name.

So far the winning French name is Camille, I love how pure and fresh it sounds. We also really like Manon but I like it more as a middle name.

My favourite name of all time is Linnea.

We would pronounce Camille the French way and are comfortable with the potential of correcting people, especially as a move to France is on the table in the next 5-10 years.

I really like Camille Linnea Manon but DH is worried it’s a bit long and my family worry that the 3 French - 1 well technically Swedish name means the Norwegian routes will be quickly forgotten.

Any opinions or ideas how we could make this work?

Linnea is so beautiful that I don’t know if I could resist using it as the first name! Would that be an option? Otherwise I think your current idea is lovely :)

KirstenBlest · 06/06/2024 17:17

Use Linnea as the first name.

elsbelss · 06/06/2024 17:18

Sorry I should have said I don’t want to use Linnea as the first name. I love Camille more so than Linnea as a first name.

I really love Manon. It always made an appearance on my baby name lists.

My experience is that you agonise over two or three names and ultimately the baby is only ever known as their first name. So that's the one to get right.

I think your choice and order are lovely. Go for it.

KirstenBlest · 06/06/2024 17:21

But you said My favourite name of all time is Linnea.

But you said My favourite name of all time is Linnea.

Perhaps I should have said that differently.
I do love and adore the sound of the name Linnea. However I like the feel of Camille a lot more. Also DH doesn’t like Linnea at all so
while it’s useable as a middle name it’s not appropriate as a first name.

I would chose another Norwegian middle name instead of Manon. Maybe a family name or one with significance to you. Alternatively your maiden name as a middle name?

Seems a lot more balanced especially with the surname. Don't worry about the number of names, 3 is fine and DH
is already getting plenty of say in matters.

VeryQuaintIrene · 06/06/2024 17:42

I think it's really beautiful (and I am usually fussy and judgmental about such things!)

We have considered hyphenating my maiden name ans his but that would he a really long name

Camille Linnea Manon Hansen-Montaigne

seems almost cruel to give the poor kid that many names!

I love a French name but beware that in the UK and likely elsewhere in the world, people will not roll the 'ille" in Camille.

Manon is harder for English speakers to mess up and her generation will have no clue about Manon des Sources.

I don't think that 5 word name is too much. She is SO lucky she gets Montaigne in there! What a name!

We’ve considered that but we don’t hate “cam-eel” enough for it to put us off.
Montaigne is a great name right! He definitely won the cooler surname competition. Hansen is a little dull.
Maybe 5 names but not Hyphen so
official surname is just Montaigne.

Camille Linnea Manon Hansen Montaigne or maybe drop a middle (but I love Manon!).

This thread is very outing with your full name on it.

I don’t mind really, it’s just about a name not like I’m divulging any family secrets!

I think that the one thing which should be an absolute is that the first name is YOUR choice, as the surname is his. That’s just fair.

Secondly, the middle names really don’t matter. They just will not figure over time! Five names is therefore fine. But also, what you need to be thinking of is just first and surname together. That’s the important pairing.

Linnea Montaigne
Camille Montaigne

I much prefer Linnea! It flows really well with Montaigne, the syllables are right.

You love it. Your DH might need to get used to it?

True, but if you post anything else in this posting name it would be very easy to link back to your identity via this thread. I'd be very careful and name change for any other posts if I were you

I don’t want to pick a name that DH has to learn to love that doesn’t seem fair and I’ve vetoed a whole host if names from him (Emilie, Isabelle, Apolline) if it were entirely his choice baby would be Apolline Camille I don’t love that, I do love Camille though.

I think Camille Linnea Manon Hansen Montaigne may work, I’m not sure on the Hansen yet.

OP posts:
yousexybugger · 06/06/2024 18:26

I'd pick Hansen over Manon if unsure about length

Saisong · 06/06/2024 18:33

Lovely names all. The only issue might be the Manon Hansen bit, because when I say it in my head it rolled into Mansen Hansen. However it is extremely unlikely to be used day to day in full.
Much as I love Manon though, i'd consider leaving it out. I would leave your surname in because it's nice to have that link (biased because my kids have the same - my surname as a second middle)

FakeMiddleton · 06/06/2024 18:38

If your surname is your maiden name, KEEP the Hansen!

FakeMiddleton · 06/06/2024 18:40

And hyphenate it with Montaigne. I have the same with my name and pick and choose which I drop off (but obvs not for official documents/passport etc). It's no bother

MaryFuckingFerguson · 06/06/2024 18:44

Camille is lovely. I am trying to think how a French pronunciation would differ from the English?

Anyway, middle names are fun to choose but do not matter a jot in life. Nice to have but utterly pointless so I wouldn’t spend time fretting over them.

FakeMiddleton · 06/06/2024 18:48

@MaryFuckingFerguson - for me, it's "Cam-eeee" versus "Cam-ill."

IdisagreeMrHochhauser · 06/06/2024 18:50

Depends what else you've posted with the same user name.

"I don’t mind really, it’s just about a name not like I’m divulging any family secrets!"

MistyHazelFox · 06/06/2024 18:51

I love Camille Linnea and think this is absolutely valid choice.
I don't mind Camille Linnea Manon Montaigue, but worry Camille Linnea Manon sounds kind of showstopper-ish and makes pause between names more obvious.
What about
Camille Linnea Rose Mont
Camille Linnea Svea Mont
Camille Linnea Sif Mont
Camille Linnea Liv Mont

I would drop Manon, but I think three names would make Camille Linnea combo stand more, in uplifting way... but I would say Manon doesn't really fit

But then again, middle names aren't really used most of the time, so I think full combo is still fine

Sue152 · 06/06/2024 18:57

I'd drop Manon too, I don't think it goes with the other names, it's much harder and more masculine sounding. Camille and Linnea are gorgeous. I agree with others that Linnea does flow better with Montaigne than Camille - but Camille Montaigne is still really lovely. I wouldn't put Hansen in as well personally as I think hyphenated names always sound pretentious and are such a mouthful. So I'd go Camille Linnea Montaigne.
