Thoughts on.... Romy

Sorry another post. What are your thoughts on the name Romy? Pronounced Ro-mee...
Would it get mispronounced as Ro-my?
Read that it means Dew of the Sea, with mediterrean links to Rosemary.
Would have it as given name not short for anything.

Both make me think of the Nazi war leader Rommel I’m afraid, although if you can get that out your head I think they’re both quite nice sounding names.

I associate it with BoJos daughter.

Me too

WaltzingWaters · 26/05/2024 22:53

Romy is lovely. Romilly too.

Heartbreaktuna · 26/05/2024 15:26

Romany pronounced like the nomadic romani gypsies?

Yes.

Teentaxidriver · 26/05/2024 22:54

I would associate with BoJo and 🤮

Copperoliverbear · 26/05/2024 23:13

I love it, that is one of my cousins names and she is so sweet and kind.
I also have a cousin called Roma too xxxx

Baddaybigcloud · 26/05/2024 23:29

I think it’s a beautiful name and I hate boris Johnson - that association will soon fade into oblivion

OhYoko · 26/05/2024 23:37

ladybirdsanchez · 25/05/2024 22:38

Boris and Carrie Johnson have a Romy

Came here to say this. I quite like it, but this kills it for me. I don't want to be in the same category as them in anything.

PatofSilverBush · 26/05/2024 23:43

I don’t like it; sorry. I like Roma or Rosemary better.

uncomfortablydumb53 · 26/05/2024 23:47

I absolutely love Romy

LittleDoveLove · 27/05/2024 01:02

I really liked Romy. DH liked it too but felt was more of a nickname and didn't like Romily which was the full name we would have used so didn't make it as our final choice. X

DramaAlpaca · 27/05/2024 01:07

Romy is very sweet, but I couldn't use it as a standalone name. To me, it's a very nice diminutive of Rosemary.

AnCùDubh · 27/05/2024 07:13

To me it seems unfinished- like it's meant to be a nickname for a longer name

trevrrevtrev · 27/05/2024 07:40

It's a beautiful name. I think of either Romy Schneider or Romy and Michele.

BoleynMemories13 · 27/05/2024 08:05

Spanishsenorota · 26/05/2024 22:37

@BoleynMemories13 Is Romilly pronounced Rom-illy or Row-milly? I've not considered it purely due to having no clue how to pronounce

Rom-illy, so it is a different sound to Romy but a similar sort of name which just has a bit more spark to it imo. I think it's the Row and Me sound combinations together which just make Romy feel a bit whiny to me. Just my opinion though. I've always felt the same about how Willow sounds too and that's ridiculously popular now so clearly lots of people do like those sort of names.

Agree - Boris has totally ruined it. Their child is about 3 so I think it is too recent and people will remember.

Romilly (rom like prom, not like roam) is lovely.

FinallyFinalGirl · 28/05/2024 18:48

Romilly is a gorgeous name. Romy is also pretty but I think Romilly has the edge.

PatofSilverBush · 28/05/2024 18:53

I like Roman for a boy. Maybe go with Roman if you have a boy.

User6761 · 28/05/2024 18:57

I don't think it would be mispronounced but I prefer Roma. The Roma I know is actually a Rosemary, but always known since birth as Roma.

Onedayatatime22 · 28/05/2024 20:13

I love Romy - but far, far prefer Rom-ee to Roam-ee as a pronunciation.

Only off put is the fact that BJ called his daughter that...

cingolimama · 28/05/2024 20:20

What about Romola?

Monkeyrules · 28/05/2024 20:39

I think go for a name that doesn't date. Romy is a trend and in 40 years time it'll be easy to guess your daughters age before people meet her whereas something more classical such as Rosanne means she could be any age as it spans a wider time period as a popular name.

elm26 · 28/05/2024 20:40

It's my favourite name if we were to ever have another DD but DH hates it and can't explain why 😢 l

HotTeaOnly · 30/05/2024 09:13

Another vote for Romilly

Initially made me think of the newreade Romilly Weeks but now see it as a fresh sounding girls name that also suits adults.
