I love the name Violet. Just love it. Always wanted to call my baby girl Violet. But all I can think when I say the name is "Violet you're turning Violet, Violet". And see a big blueberry girl being rolled away by umpa lumpas. I was hoping it was just me and I could get over it, but when I mention the name to people, quite a lot of them laugh and repeat the "violet you're turning violet" line. But its such a pretty name!

I like it. I think you will get over the link after a while. I love the name Grace, but I had a childhood sort of friend called Grace who always had a snotty nose and it always makes me think of that - I try and push it out of my mind!

I love Violet. It reminds me of a lovely song by Savage Garden also called Violet. Fab name. Forget about the umpalumpas!

BetteNoir · 05/04/2008 11:57

Lots of Violets around.
I think it is a lovely name.

I loved the name George for DS2 but was put off at first by people's reference to "Georgie Porgie pudding and pie...". We decided to ignore it and I am so glad we did. DS2 made up his own (very cute) version of the rhyme and sings it to anyone that mentions Georgie Porgie .

I would say if you love it,then go for it!

WelliesAndPyjamas · 05/04/2008 12:02

how about Violeta?

zebedee1 · 05/04/2008 12:12

Violet is just gorgeous, I think you should use it!

MadameCh0let · 05/04/2008 12:40

Unless your sur name is Beauregarde, I wouldn't let the Willy Wonka connection put you off!!

Violet is a good name. It fits in with the standard Victorian names such as Emily, Eleanor, Alice, Eliza, but it has a bit more quirk and strength about it at the same time.

Violeta on the other hand. No me gusta.

shoshe · 05/04/2008 12:52

Isnt Ben Afflects baby daughter called Violet?

It might become 'the' new celeb name

landj · 05/04/2008 12:54

Not sure it fits in with other DC names though. Mind you, not sure they go together anyway!

Violet is a lovely name. Although I know I would forever mispronounce it as 'violent' if I called my own child that.

isaidno · 05/04/2008 12:59

I like it; doesn't make me think of wonka!

Sorry hatrick, but i am one of those "murdered in eastenders" people!! Guess you can never escape tv. Called my DS Jacob. Few weeks later joe pasquali was in "Im a celebrity..." calling his bollox his Jacobs. Really hated that!!

I don't like the name tbh, but it doesn't put me in mind of Willie Wonka.

If you love it, go for it

pollyblue · 06/04/2008 00:29

Love the name, I had a hamster called Violet so couldn't use it for dd as it makes me think of Violet the hamster who spent long periods of time hanging upside down in her cage like a bat
