Thoughts on Flora Green?
Obviously Green is the surname.

Flora is an amazing name.

Never had the margarine - don't eat that crap - so would never make that association.

Sorry I didn't explain myself, Im not interested in thoughts on the name Flora on its own, I was hoping for thoughts on the name paired with the surname Green.

Love the name Flora! Reminds me of Cold Comfort Farm. I think if you love it use it. Florence Green does somehow sound slightly better together, but there's nothing wrong with Flora Green and I definitely prefer the name Flora. I would go for it.

liveforsummer · 25/05/2024 08:08

Flora is a perfectly usual name in my part of the country and a nice one, but I'm afraid it doesnt sound great with green to me. I think there's too much of a link between the 2 and it does perhaps sound like a vegan version of the margarine. I agree Florence is a great alternative and you could use Flora for a nick name

CardiganTardigan · 25/05/2024 10:45

It’s ok but I prefer Thora.

I don't really like Flora Green. I like Flora as name, just think with surname Green it's bad. It makes all jokes about the name hit harder.

But, I heard you can give your child any surname you want in Britain. Maybe you can check this out with a lawyer, because I only heard this on this forum.
But may be simpler to use different first name.

Thewalrusandthecarpenter · 25/05/2024 11:48

Flora Green is perfectly lovely. Green is the type of surname that goes with almost any name, but definitely deserves a first name of more than one syllable. She sounds fresh, bright and capable to me.

LondonLass61 · 25/05/2024 11:58

Thought of this years ago, but my brother quoted an old ad: 'Flora - spreads easily'
So that was the end of that.

FayCarew · 25/05/2024 12:17

I think it's fine, if a bit eco-sounding.
Jade or Emerald sprang to mind as possible names Smile

medianewbie · 25/05/2024 12:19

Lovely classic name.
But paired with Green it does bring to mind a vegan margarine rather.
What about Florence? Flo? Or google 'floral names' - many lovely flower names.

Ratatouille1 · 25/05/2024 12:21

Works fine with Green imo

Lilacbluebells · 25/05/2024 12:21

I think Flora is beautiful and it’s probably my all time favourite girls name but I wouldn’t use it with Green, sorry.

Catlord · 25/05/2024 12:26

Specifically with the surname I think it's too reminiscent of the margarine, sounds like a vegan version. Its the overall impression, obviously it's an acceptable name and doesn't spell out an advertising slogan or anything rude but I think is just a bit too well known a plant based product for the inference not to be a bit of a joke. Sorry. I know you like it but I would probably go with another choice or a variant like Florence or Fleur

mimiscards · 25/05/2024 12:45

It just reminds me of the butter, sorry.

What about Florrie, Florence, etc?

GreenShady · 25/05/2024 12:47

I love it, I had it lined up for one of mine who turned out to be a boy!

Firsttimebabymummy · 25/05/2024 14:57

Much prefer Florance, nn Flora. Especially with Green as a surname- sound like a cleaning brand as mentioned above.

Rainingsincenovember · 25/05/2024 17:20

I love Flora and know three (aged 8, 4 and 1) but I don't think it works very well with Green.

Molone · 25/05/2024 17:27

If the surname is Green I would choose Laura over Flora, sounds similar but less like a butter.

Elmlee · 25/05/2024 17:31

Floria is very cute or you could go for Flore or Florrie which are variations of it x

Amx · 25/05/2024 17:33

Spreads easily is vile but wood put me off.

Flora Green sounds like a florist.

Dontcrymysweetpotato · 25/05/2024 17:42

I love the name Flora but Flora Green sounds too naturey to me. Like you either didn't realise the connotation or were tree-huggers. It's not too bad but there might be some smirks through her life.

FangsForTheMemory · 25/05/2024 17:53

Fleur?

Sandysandwich · 25/05/2024 17:53

Personally I don't like it with Green, its a bit 'planty' and makes me think of Zoflora with the green label

bomi · 25/05/2024 17:54

I love it!!

Mercury2702 · 25/05/2024 17:55

The first thing that comes to mind for me is vaginal flora, yeast infections 😩 I like it but as a nurse I feel like I have too many connotations
