Names too samey?

Hello, I’ve just found out that we’re having another girl. Our eldest is called Molly, which I love. We had intended to call her Lily after both of my grandmothers, but when she was born she just didn’t look like one.

I know it’s a really popular name and I don’t love that, but I love that it is a name associated with two wonderful women for me. There is every chance that this one may not look like a Lily either (😂) but I can’t quite settle on Molly and Lily together- is it me being weird or is it just too much?

It isn’t that I love the ‘Lee’ sound at the end of the names, just coincidence. So I’m asking: 1. is it going to sound too twee and 2. Any alternative suggestions? The middle name will be Margaret after my DH’s Nana and my Aunt, so although I love them I’m keen to avoid names beginning with M. Any help appreciated x

I know more than one set of Lily and Ellie sisters. That's fine and not dissimilar.

I think they are too matchy. Could you use Lilian or Lilias, even Elizabeth?

@CadyEastman @marmiteloversunite Snap! I also find it difficult to say the names together. Something about repositioning the mouth

Yes Lily sounds like "Lil lay" when I try to say it. Glad it's not just me!

I think they're a little sing songy, but not as close as Millie and Lily, Lola and Nola. The vowel sounds are different enough.

Would you consider Daisy Lillian? Daisy is a respectable name in its own right and a nn for Margaret.

Thanks all. We’re not a huge fan of Daisy, but Elizabeth is definitely a thinker. I love Lila too, but my Goddaughter is a Lila and it just feels a little too close. I think we may need to look at alternative options in general, although the fifty fifty split in it being too similar or not has reassured me that we can probably get away with it if needs be.

Our first daughter didn’t really look like a Lily when she was born and I do stand by that now 😆 so back up names are a good idea.

Thank you all so much. Good to see a real mix of responses x

Call her Lily @Oneshoetwoshoe . You love the name. My name is nothing like my siblings'. It looks a bit strange now we're far from being children but we didn't think anything of it as kids.

We had friends with different names and some with very matching names (think siblings Steven and Stephanie or Linda and Amanda). They'll be individuals.
