Pick my baby boys name!

So after a lot of struggling with boys names and trawling through endless baby name lists, I think the name we will go for will probably one of these. Our criteria when looking for a name was nothing too popular that would age well, but we’re struggling with the not too popular part.

Which one would you choose? Surname begins with I if you’re someone who thinks about initials.

Milo Thomas
Bobby Thomas
Toby Theodore
Ezra Thomas
Levi Thomas
Jonah Theodore

Middle names can be changed so if any don’t sound right they aren’t fixed!

Toby Thomas

Torn between Toby Theodore and Ezra Thomas. If Thomas was a first name that would definitely be my pick - so lovely and classic.

DistinguishedSocialCommentator · 13/05/2024 20:07

Ezra!!

I do love the name Thomas but it’s just a bit too traditional for what we would like as a first name. Toby Theodore also feels very traditional for us but we have mentioned it a few times and both go back to it (as we do with the rest of the list). Tommy was almost a contender but couldn’t settle on any middle name.

Jonah Theodore is a fabulous name.

Ah, see I’d do the opposite- go for the traditional first name as it might age better - but call him Tommy from day 1 ( I know a couple of people who’ve done this - but I had to ask, as everyone knows the kid as Tommy even at school) . Then go for the funky/ trendy middle name - so Thomas Ezra, Thomas Jonah etc. But personal taste etc 😁

Milo I(surname) looks nice and I’d say Milo is one of the best names on your list along with Toby and Jonah. I’m personally not keen on nicknames on a birth certificate so would use Robert instead of Bobby. And I’m not a fan of Ezra or Levi.

NetMum2 · 13/05/2024 20:28

Personally I would choose Thomas as a first name and then just pick whichever other name is your favourite as the middle…

ThroughThickAndThin01 · 13/05/2024 20:29

Toby Theodore.

Bobby could become Bob. Bob! Don’t do it.

That is one thing that puts me off Bobby! I can cope with Bobs, wouldn’t be a fan of Bob though 😂

Jonah Thomas is an option we’ve talked about before so it’s something we could go for!

Toby Theodore and Jonah Theodore stand out from your list, I like the other names too (big fan of Milo) but those two just work really well.

LiquoriceAllsorts2 · 13/05/2024 21:15

I Went for Milo Thomas but actually prefer Toby Thomas (just don’t like Toby Theodore)

jonah Thomas is a lot better than Jonah Theodore.

if you have definitely decided against Thomas as the first name then I think you should definitely make it the middle; it goes great with all of your names and works better than Theodore.

AdaColeman · 13/05/2024 21:23

Toby is my favourite from your list.
Milo isn't too bad.

Not keen on any of the others, Jonah is my least favourite.

FayCarew · 13/05/2024 21:50

I think you should consider which first name goes best with the surname.
Is the surname one that starts with an 'ih' sound or with am 'eye' sound (e.g. Inman or Ives)

Levi Ives - no, Levi Inman - ok
Jonah Ives - Joan Arrives, Jonah Inman - Jonah in Whale (sorry, it's probably neither of those surnames)

From the middle names, I only like Thomas.

First names in order:
Toby
Bobby - I also like Robert and Bob

Not so keen on:
Ezra
Jonah

Don't like:
Milo
Levi
Theodore

Complete wildcard:
Joab

Ezra Thomas

Wild card thrown in ... Tobias.

Similar to Toby and it has the same religious feel as Jonas .
