Not long to go now so time to post a baby name thread. Top 5 boys are Eli, Sebastian, Gianluca (Luca) Giacomo & Leonardo (Leo) (not Italian but baby conceived in Sardinia!). Top 5 girls are Rohanne, Cecily, Genevieve (prob shorten to Eve), Maeve & Bridie. No idea if baby is pink or blue so need to have one of each. Off work for a couple of days now with bad back so could do with some chuckles from you witty MNers! Let rip ladies, promise no offence will be taken! PS I love Queenie but DP disapproves. Is he right?

all nice names but Queenie probably a bit outre

I am slightly wary of the very Italian names depending on what type of place you live
I can't imagine them going down too well everywhere

QueenMeabhOfConnaught · 02/04/2008 17:02

Queenie - god no, that's just not on!!!!

How do Italian names sound with your surname?

Bridie makes me think of a pensioner - sorry.

I like Eli and Cecily, though.

TurkeyLurkey · 02/04/2008 17:03

Queenie is just plain cruel , I like all the others though.

For your boys names I love Gianluca and Leonardo.

Girls I like Genevieve, in fact thats beautiful and Cecily.

artichokes · 02/04/2008 17:07

OK, I will preface my comments by saying I personally do not like names that are from other countries on babies that have no link to that country (and that link has to be more than conception, your DC will die of embarrassment when they realise their name commemorates a place you had sex).

Eli - too close to Ellie but I quite like the sound
Sebastian - sweet
Gianluca (Luca) - nooo (see above), also Luca is so popular and smacks of having an ER fan for a mother
Giacomo - nooo see above
Leonardo (Leo) - Leo is nice, not Leonardo

Rohanne - is this like Rowan? Quite like it.
Cecily - v sweet, call her CeCe for short
Genevieve (prob shorten to Eve) - uber posh
Maeve - are you Irish? Or just a fan of Chick Lit (wink)
Bridie - not sure, will think about this one Queenie - please don't do that to her

OrmIrian · 02/04/2008 17:08

Oh noooo!

I suppose Genevieve is OKisk . Queenie is a no-no.

Sorry.

chopchopbusybusy · 02/04/2008 17:08

I like Luca and Eve.

Definite no to Queenie - I had an Auntie Queenie .

MadameCh0let · 02/04/2008 17:08

Eli - OK but a bit boring, all over the American boards as a nn for Elliot and for Elias. I prefer Elias.

Sebastian - ok. Bit self-consciously posh perhaps, although I do like Bash as a nn. Not for my own son though.

Gianluca (Luca) - I like this, but I don't think I could pull it off. I'm Tipp-Ex white myself...

Giacomo & Leonardo (Leo) I do like these, but I don't think I could give my child a name like this. I could use Bruno which has an Italian feeeeel (I know it's not Italian).

I really like Leopold with Leo for short. Leonardo is too di caprio. Leonard isn't read for a comeback, but Leopold is just gorgeous....

top 5 girls are Rohanne - no...
Cecily - LOVE this one.
Genevieve - sorry. Disney have made this chav. Shame. I liked it five yrs ago. Thank God I didn't use it.
Eve - This is gorgeous. so much more dramatic somehow than Eva or Evie. I love it.
Maeve - I love Maeve, it's beautiful, simple, unusual. Lovely.

Bridie - no... This reminds me of a nun. Very clunky and not ready for a revival.

MadameCh0let · 02/04/2008 17:09

Ps. No to Queenie. Perhaps you could use this one as a nn, but do not commit this to a birth cert. It's just an ugly sound. It's cool in a Sadie Frost might use this kind of way but I hate it.

Rosbo · 02/04/2008 17:14

definately no to Queenie.
Cecily is lovely IMO.
I would do that as a joint name like...Cecily-Fay?

Not particularly keen on any of your boy names except Leonardo.

vicsta · 02/04/2008 17:27

Seems Queenie's out then? DP will be pleased. Just to clear up Rohanne is like Rowan (just spelt that way in the girls section of Baby name book). And no, I'm not Irish, Welsh in fact & sadly did get the name from the cover of a book (never read it though). Luca again V sad mummy ER fan - God you lot are positively psychic. As this is my first I'm not getting the disney connection to Genevieve. Is there a vital cartoony film missing from my life? Keep it coming ladies, you're really helpng and cheering me up no end.

Rohanne sounds like the Riders of Rohan from LOTR

Would avoid the Itailin names unless you are either Itailin or are going to live there. Granted baby was concieved there but my son was concieved as we were moving house. I resisted the urge to call him Packing Case

vicsta · 02/04/2008 17:30

Ooooh! Liking Nico, Hatrick, may have to stealadd that one!

OrmIrian · 02/04/2008 17:31

Funnily Rohane was one of the ones I liked. But it also reminds me of the outdoor clothing store.

Oh I love Maeve - it was to be dd's name until about 2 weeks before she was born when we suddenly realised it didn't go with our surname (I blame pregnancy hormones, I don't know what DH's excuse was).

Boys - I would favour sebastian from your list although like Leo and Luca too.

www.amazon.com/Princess-Genevieve-Doll-Dancing-Princesses/dp/B000ELIXRW

That's Barbie Genevieve. THere is a Disney connection too though. She's one of the dancing Barbies. Donchano?!?!

I'd use Max and Milo and Barnaby and Annabel and the names of some other various dolls and characters. But the names of the other barbies are kennedy, madison, Tanner.... all terrible!!

Just had a thought, what about Sabrina? Has a touch of Sardinia about it.

MrsMattie · 02/04/2008 17:40

Of the boys names, I like Eli best, although all the names are nice imo.

I like Genevieve and Maeve for a girl, but really not keen on the others.
