My DH and I are expecting our first and very likely only child, we want her name to be absolutely perfect.
Top of our list right now is Verity but I want to know what your thoughts are on the name, what would you imagine someone named Verity to be like, what connotations does the name have for you?
Do you like the name Verity?

I know a little one , lovely name.

I love Verity.
I met one nearly 30 years ago, never known of another.
She was quite arty, and a lovely warm person, colourful dresser and had lots of friends.

Verity Poldark as acted by Norma Streader.

I love it but we were put off by it's rising popularity :(

oldnorsesaga · 01/05/2024 16:08

I imagine Verity to be blonde thin type. I seen character named Verity on film once so that's my association. I also only think child when I think of Verity. I prefer Felicity.

VeronicaBeccabunga · 01/05/2024 16:09

Absolutely love it!
It's slightly unusual without being weird, it's classic and classy and rather pretty.
I had it on my list, along with Liberty as I really like the 'virtue' names.

Damnthedieteatingdoritos · 01/05/2024 16:10

I know an adult Verity - she's lovely!

it's a favourite name of mine after reading the Poldark novels 🥰

chocomoccalocca · 01/05/2024 16:13

Was my DH favourite name if we had a girl,I like it but we had boys so never got to use it in the end!!

Huldrafolk · 01/05/2024 16:13

The one I knew at university was a horsy type who was always going to balls at Cirencester in a vintage satin nightie. I think she married someone in line for an earldom.

pinkmags · 01/05/2024 16:16

I'm not a fan of virtue names personally.

InWithPeaceOutWithStress · 01/05/2024 16:18

Sounds posh to me.

TrustPenguins · 01/05/2024 16:24

Not keen.
I know of two, both aged 9. Think it has become more popular in recent years.

Snoopystick · 01/05/2024 16:29

It’s a beautiful name - feminine and pretty without being fussy.

Abracadabra12345 · 01/05/2024 16:32

I went to school with a Verity and she was stunning. It's the only Verity I've known. It's a lovely name

zump · 01/05/2024 16:32

It sounds pretty to my ears, but I'm always a little anxious about virtue names in case the child doesn't turn out to have the right personality-type. So if your Verity told lies or if a Grace was constantly crashing into things.

DD knew a Verity as a child, but misheard her name initially and from then on always referred to her as Vanity!!

NeverHeardOfSuchTosh · 01/05/2024 16:32

I love it and know one.

MinervaMcGonagallsCat · 01/05/2024 16:33

It's a good name. Not common. Not wacky.

Revelatio · 01/05/2024 16:37

I know a Verity at work, she’s a lot of fun, a proper cockney, doesn’t take any crap from anyone. I don’t know anyone at work who doesn’t like her, she beat half the men in an impromptu arm wrestling competition at Christmas!

AnnaMagnani · 01/05/2024 16:39

This is my all time favourite girl's name.

Brasilica · 01/05/2024 16:41

It sounds a bit harsh to my ear

ThisIsMyRubbishUsername · 01/05/2024 16:44

I like it a lot.
It’s got that feeling of Matilda, Dorothy, Felicity etc to me, but I don’t know any Verity’s personally. It’s got a fresh but classic feel at the same time.

Moreteaandchocolate · 01/05/2024 16:50

I know a little Verity so it’s grown on me, but my initial impressions were it’s a bit posh / virtuous and I’m not sure I’d like to be called it, personally.

spiderlight · 01/05/2024 17:50

I know an absolutely amazing teenager called Verity who is incredibly clever and funny and brave and is absolutely going to change the world for the better one day, so it's a big yes from me!

ChildrenOfTheQuorn · 01/05/2024 17:57

I really like it but wouldn't use it as I went to school with a Verity (she was a nice enough girl tbf). I associate it with Verity Poldark mostly.

DramaAlpaca · 01/05/2024 18:01

It's nice, a bit different without being out-there. I like it much better than Liberty but not quite as much as Felicity.
