Help with baby girl name

Need help picking my baby girl's name. We're first-generation here and not sure which name would be modern. We want to ensure she doesn't get bullied in school. Thank you! We're also open to your suggestions for short and easy names.

Eva
Leah
Myla

I like Leah. I think Eva is a bit overused and Myla is a bit too modern.

Id also say that kids don’t seem to tease each other about names really now as there’s much more variety. My DS is 12 and has been at school with kids named Frank, Mystique, Eboni, Stanley, Woody and a whole load more. Plus he has a relatively unusual name. I’ve never heard him talk about anyone being bullied for their name and to him, they’re all perfectly “normal” names. So I wouldn’t worry too much and would try and go for something you love.

All three of those names will work well for a child in school right now. Leah is perhaps less 'of the moment' than the others but not unknown. Eva is my favourite.

Kids don't really get bullied in school anymore for things like names.

My favourite from your list is Leah

KirstenBlest · 21/04/2024 16:18

Eva - there are so many girls called Eva, Evie, Ava, Ivy, Evelyn etc and have been for a long time.
Leah - from the Bible and not overused. There are lots of similar names popular like Mia, Layla, Lily, Lena etc so seems a bit samey
Myla - lots of similar names like Mila, Lyla, Leia, Lila, Maia, Maya, Mya, Milo (boy obvs) popular so this two seems samey.

The names won't be that easy because of there being so many similar names.

From your 3, Leah is the best.
Suggestions: Anna, Nina, Lois, Rita, Greta.

I'd pick a name from your heritage or one you like.

Moreteaandchocolate · 21/04/2024 16:22

I really like all 3 of your names! My personal favourite is Leah, it feels so classic yet underused. Eva would be my second choice - another lovely classic - just very popular at the moment. I also like Myla if you want something a bit more modern sounding?

My favourite from your list is Myla, followed by Eva. I’m not the biggest fan of Leah purely because of associations I have with the name, but it’s a completely acceptable and useable name ☺️

As PP’s have said, kids are a lot kinder about thinks like names now - I think you’ll have nastier comments from some of the people on MN than kids at schools!

All modern enough. I like Eva

Ava

mia
mila

I like Myla although it reminds me of Mylor in Cornwall.

Eva and Leah are both quite dull.

BoleynMemories13 · 21/04/2024 17:53

Eva and Leah are lovely traditional names. Myla is very modern and could end up being a bit faddy. It's a current trend which could date her when she's older to being a '2020s baby', whereas nobody would automatically guess the age of an Eva or Leah.

I prefer Eva of the 3. It's a very international choice too, it will travel well.

FlyingPizzaMonkey · 21/04/2024 18:21

I love the name Leah and you don’t hear it as much where as there are a ton of Eve/Evie’s and Eva’s. Every other girl is an Evie.

Myla is just a nothingy/faddy name that will date. Especially if you just stick May/Rose/Grace on the end which are the current filler middle names for girls.

TribeofFfive · 21/04/2024 18:27

Biased as it’s my daughters name, but my favourite from your list is Eva. It always comes up as a popular or overused name but she was the only Eva in her primary school the whole way through and we’ve only met 2 others in 11 years since she was born.

Not a huge fan of Myla. Leah is ok.

Ivy is a beautiful name.

dontforgetme · 21/04/2024 18:28

I love Leah!

MountCaramel · 21/04/2024 18:30

Eva is lovely and very classic, I'd go for this one.

Some other suggestions:

KirstenBlest · 21/04/2024 19:00

Eva isn't a classic in the UK but Eve is.

Leah is my favourite. A friend of mine just had a baby girl she named Reina (she pronounces it "ray-na" which I thought was quite nice too.
