Hi, my sister in law who shares the same last name, has announced that her and my brother in law are going to use our sons name as their child’s name, there is 6 years between the two kids and they don’t live near us. Example we have a James and they are going to call their son James John , am I being unreasonable to be annoyed? My husband is fine with it.

I'd find it slightly amusing myself but it wouldn't bother me. My mother and her cousin had baby girls of the same name, born about a week apart.

I'd make lots of references to them liking our child's name so much that out of all the thousands of available names they had to copy it.

Names have special meaning for parents, and when someone else wants to use your child's name for their child, it can cause feelings of displeasure and privacy violations. You need to openly discuss your feelings with your husband and daughter-in-law. They may not understand how this affects you and may be willing to consider other options.

It's just a name. There are many, many others with your child's name -none of whom are as special and wonderful to you, and never will be.
Your child is uniquely yours regardless of their name.

Send her a message saying how much you're looking forward to meeting "Little Jimmy", keep calling him and they'll hopefully change their mind 🤣
