We have a shortlist of 3 baby girl names - which would you choose?

  1. Sacha
  2. Rafaella
  3. Aurelia

Aurelia but with an accent : Aurélia cos I'm posh! Wink Grin

MomPetty · 08/04/2024 18:35

Sasha with an s if a baby girl.
Rafaella - hard pass - it's a lovely white chocolate and coconut balls of a name.

miniaturepixieonacid · 08/04/2024 18:52

Sacha is my favourite. I used to think Sacha with a c was for a boy and Sasha with an S was for a boy but now I work with a female Sacha so I guess the two spellings are interchangeable.

Aurelia is nice but very frilly. I think it would really suit some people but not at all for others and there's no way of predicting whether it will suit your daughter. But then there's always Rory if she turns out not to be a 'frilly' person. I like that as a funky, more androgynous shortening.

I like Rafaella but would only use if you have Spanish/Portuguese/Central or South American heritage.

DuchessOfSausage · 08/04/2024 18:54

Sasha with that spelling.
The other two are too frilly.

Marcipex · 08/04/2024 18:57

Sasha with an s rather than with a c. I absolutely love it.

Your other names are nice too.

I didn’t know that Rafaela was a chocolate. I don’t know if it really matters though.
It’s not as if it was a toilet cleaner.

DuchessOfSausage · 08/04/2024 19:00

The chocolate is Raffaello.

Aurelia

  1. Sacha - reminds of a big scruffy dog and Sacha BC.
  2. Rafaella - overly complicated sounds more like a chocolate or a ninja turtle.
  3. Aurelia - not keen but the best of a bad bunch. Again overly fussy complicated sounding name and sounds like Arial the mermaid.
Pinkchicken85 · 08/04/2024 19:33

At a push Aurélia.

MuggedByReality · 08/04/2024 19:39

Sacha is a boy’s name. It would be like calling a girl Clive.

Rafaella is ok, but it’s a bit of a mouthful so think about the nickname she will inevitably be known by. Rafa? Raf Ella?

Aurelia - I’m not enthusiastic but it’s probably the best of the bunch.

TenThousandSpoons · 08/04/2024 19:39

Sacha.

Moreteaandchocolate · 08/04/2024 20:03

Sacha - short, simple and cool.

Mumofgirls2017 · 08/04/2024 22:21

Aurelia 100%

darkchocolatecoffee · 08/04/2024 22:22

Aurelia

35andThriving · 08/04/2024 22:38

Rafaella is nice. I would also suggest Ramona because to me it has the same vibe.

theduchessofspork · 08/04/2024 23:10

Can I vote for Raphaelle?!

Otherwise Raphaella

Followed by Alexandra or Saskia nn Sacha

No to Aurelia, sadly Disneyfied like Aurora

Allegra maybe?

MillyMollyMandy01 · 08/04/2024 23:50

Sasha rather than Sacha.

The other two options sound like you’re trying to hard.

Beachs · 09/04/2024 04:28

I’m not a fan of any of them. All sound pretentious and try hard

KnickerlessParsons · 09/04/2024 04:33

Someone has to say it......

All three are pretty awful. Sorry OP.

marshmallowfinder · 09/04/2024 05:52

Sasha is gorgeous, with an s though.

Dislike the others.

Sunnnybunny72 · 09/04/2024 06:14

Sasha with a S

LadyEloise1 · 09/04/2024 07:12

I would prefer Aurelie to Aurelia.
Sasha is nice too. I'd prefer Saskia though.

Totally agree with this. I know a few little girls who would not suit Aurelia even though it’s absolutely beautiful.

Also totally agree about the heritage point. Our DC have French heritage and as much as we liked Rafael, none of us are Hispanic and both agreed we couldn’t have gone for anything other than the French Raphaël (calling to mind Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles). I’m sure many don’t give a damn about this heritage link though.

Would you pronounce oh-RELL-Leah or oh-RAY-Leah? Ray is another gender neutral nickname which is no longer an older man name eg Raye is a popular middle name for girls now. There’s also the pop star Raye. But may not be your thing. I’m not fussed myself.

Sacha is so cool!

Pinkl · 09/04/2024 08:53

Sasha with an S

SmoggyCarolSecondComing · 09/04/2024 10:40

Daniel is a better name !
