Opinions Please - girl's name.

Having a girl and love the names Sophie and Millie. Is it weird to have this as her first and middle name? Because they sort of sound similar.
Also considering Sophia as a first name (Sophia Millie)
And Poppy as a middle name - so either with Sophie or Sophia.

The first name is definitely either Sophie or Sophia so just trying to find nice names to go with them.

Honest opinions please.

Also realise that no one really uses their middle name everyday so wondering how much it matters?

Thank you!

I think Millie is very Y2K.

I much prefer Sophia

PressureLikeATickTickTick · 06/04/2024 11:14

Sophia Emily?
Sophia Camille?
Sophia Emilia?

oldnorsesaga · 06/04/2024 11:16

I like Sophie Millie the best because I like Sophie more than Sophia. Middle names don't matter much, but sometimes people pick their first+middle instead of first+surnames when picking a pseudonym or they want to present in the world as Miss Middle Surname, because they like middle so much more than first name.

MissedItByThisMuch · 06/04/2024 11:18

Sure there are combinations that flow better, but honestly if those are the names you love just use them. Middle names are rarely said aloud, more often written.

Snoopystick · 06/04/2024 11:18

Sophie Millie is lovely

Moreteaandchocolate · 06/04/2024 11:59

I think Sophie Millie or Sophie Poppy sound gorgeous.

Sophia might flow very slightly better with the middle names, but I sense that Sophie is your favourite, so (if that’s the case) you should definitely go with that.

PotatoPudding · 06/04/2024 12:17

I think they’re all lovely names but I don’t like Millie as a middle name. I think Sophia Poppy has the nicest ring to it.

theduchessofspork · 06/04/2024 12:39

Sophie is lovely and less overdone than Sophia. Millie is really a diminutive though

How about Sophie Millicent?

Or failing that Sophia Poppy nn Sophie

Sophie Millie and Sophie Poppy are both a bit twee

ShoesoftheWorld · 06/04/2024 12:44

Sophia (also Sophie but I like the -ia ending still more) is the best girls' name ever IMO. Overdone, yes, but for a reason.

Millie's a shortening, it's not really a name in its own right tbh. What I do think would flow nicely is Sophie Millicent. If Poppy, then only with Sophia.

Mumofgirls2017 · 06/04/2024 16:17

Personal preference I think it really doesn’t flow having something like Sophie Millie. Sophia Millie though is fine as is Sophia poppy

Sophie harriet
sophie alice
sophie olivia
sophie rose
sophie charlotte
sophia grace
sophie matilda
sophie elizabeth
sophie eleanor
sophie isabel
sophie maria

for me those flow better if you want ideas?

rox1987 · 06/04/2024 16:32

I've recently had a baby and in my antenatal group there are about 10 babies, including a set of twins. The twins are called Millie and Sophia and one of the other babies is called Millie Sophia ... 🤣
My advice would be to prioritise the first name you like the most. If that's Sophie (which I agree is a lovely name) I wouldn't compromise for the sake of a middle name if you think Sophie Millie doesn't sound right.

SkaneTos · 06/04/2024 17:28

Great names.
I think either combination works!
Sophie Millie
Sophia Millie
Sophie Poppy
Sophia Poppy

Cakeandcardio · 06/04/2024 17:40

Thanks everyone for your kind input! Lots to think about. Thanks also for the suggestions - we have gone through quite a few of them too! Sophie Grace and Sophie Charlotte in particular. Really appreciated!

Sophie is a lovely name. I prefer it to Sophia.

I think for middle names just go with whatever you like or has meaning to you. I don’t think it really matters if first and middle names flow. FWIW, my daughter’s middle name almost clashes with her first but it is an honour name I wanted to use, and didn’t want to give her a less nice first name just to make them “go”. Now I’m used to it, I kind of like how clunky it is!

CreateYourOwnUsername · 06/04/2024 21:51

Sophie Charlotte is lovely.

I also agree that Millie is a bit Y2K somehow and that Sophie Millie doesn't flow very well. So unless you are absolutely set on Millie, I wouldn't use it as a middle name.

Sophie is a lot nicer than Sophia imo too

Willa8 · 06/04/2024 22:14

Love Sophia and Sophie. Also like the nickname Millie but I really think it is just that: a nickname. But not my child to name! So go with whatever you love, putting the one you love most first.

I’d go for something like Sophia Millicent
or
Camille (known as Millie) Sophia - and announce it that way so it’s clear to friends and family

IamnotwhouthinkIam · 06/04/2024 22:15

You are right middle names ( and therefore their “flow”) don’t really matter/ often get used/known about by anyone bar the person in question or their close family - so why not use a middle name that has a lot of meaning to you rather than just something that sounds nice? (that’s the job of a first name imo)

Sophia or Sophie makes a pretty, nice sounding first name and is a classic, sensible, popular choice that will likely serve her well (albeit she might have to spell Sophia vs Sofia but you’d have that with Milly vs Millie too ).

So I’d give her a middle name that is more interesting- the name of a family member or friend that you’d like to honour, a favourite flower or plant (if not too ridiculous sounding - if you really adore Poppies then that would work) even a favourite name from a book, song or film etc

Yeah, we chose middle names with wild abandon knowing it’d make our parents and siblings so happy and proud to have their GC/nieces/nephews named after them. That was actually more important to us than them sounding nice with names hardly ever used. I’ll never forget the time we told each relative and their reaction.

Sophie is lovely.
Sophie Camilla is my fave
Others ..
Sophie Millicent
Sophie Charlotte
Sophia Poppy

Strawberrycheesecake7 · 07/04/2024 07:56

I don’t like the flow of Sophie Millie. It does sound to samey to me. I think Sophia Millie is better.

Sunnnybunny72 · 07/04/2024 08:00

Sophie feels dated. Sophia sounds footballers wives to my ears.
Millie is so overdone, I know several. It doesn't age well either.
Sophie Millie sounds like what a little girl would name a doll. Sorry.
Poppy is dreadful. Wet and again, infantile.
Charlotte is lovely. I'd at least put that in somewhere.
Charlotte Eleanor?

Watchthedoormat · 07/04/2024 08:01

Sophie Millie Poppy just sounds to me like you couldn't decide on which one you liked best so pushed all three in there.

Sophia Poppy would be my choice.
Forget Millie.

Chaoseverywhere · 07/04/2024 08:01

When I was growing up there were always Sophies in the class. Your post has reminded me of them and how I don’t know any child with that name now. It’s a classic but not overused which is nice.
as others have said re your middle names, people rarely say them out loud and choosing whatever you like makes sense.
lovely choices in my opinion!

SophiaRose35 · 07/04/2024 15:58

My name is Sophia and I'll be honest I much prefer it to Sophie but that's just me. If you like it pick it :) I like Sophia Poppy from your list

Pocketfullofdogtreats · 07/04/2024 16:22

A lot depends on your surname. Sophie Baxter sounds better than Sophia Baxter, having the same sound at the end. I agree with the pp who said that Sophie is a bit dated. It's a bit like Julie - Sophia and Julia sound more classic but also more contemporary.
I don't think middle names matter much. Do you know your friends' middle names? I can't think of any. For some reason I love Milly (that spelling).
