I love Wren, Maisie and Marnie - all short, simple, pretty for all ages, familiar but not overused and a little bit cool too.

I also really like Lois and Rowan for similar reasons.

Heidi I find a bit twee. Tabitha is nice but the one I know is known as Tabs (as a teen) which I’m not so keen on.

DuchessOfSausage · 30/03/2024 13:43

Marnie - ok but doesn't look like a full name
Tabitha - ok
Wren - dreadful
Rowan - nice but popular for boys
Maisie - twee and doesn't look like a full name
Heidi - ok
Lois - nice

PutOnYourRedShoesAndLetsDance · 30/03/2024 13:51

Not Rowan.. it's a boys name in my mind ( Grandson) all others l love.

MinervaMcGonagallsCat · 30/03/2024 13:55

Lois is great.

I don't really like any of the others. Wren is really bad.

Theoldwoman · 30/03/2024 13:56

Tabitha and Heidi

Sunnnybunny72 · 30/03/2024 14:32

Marnie - god no.
Tabitha - no
Wren - dreadful
Rowan - no
Maisie - infantile
Heidi - really nice
Lois - dated

goldenretrievermum5 · 30/03/2024 15:04

Marnie - awful, doesn’t sound like a real name and just reminds me of sarnie
Tabitha - lovely + classy
Wren - not bad but a bit too trendy

Rowan - always more of a boys one to me
Maisie - twee, will age badly
Heidi - like
Lois - never been a fan, much prefer Louisa/Eloise

Grapesandcheesetwo · 30/03/2024 15:06

Lois, Rowan and Tabitha are my favourites.
They are all usable though.

Notreat · 30/03/2024 15:07

Rowan is nice for a boy i can't see it as a girls name. The others are nice apart from Maisie which I'm not sure about.

TheIcecreamManCometh · 30/03/2024 15:11

Marnie - Hitchcock
Tabitha - witch
Wren - Life in pieces/Mick Jagger's ex who committed suicide
Rowan - Mr Bean
Maisie - mouse
Heidi - 70s badly dubbed series about the mountain girl
Lois - Lane/Family guy

Preference:

  1. Wren
  2. Rowan
  3. Marnie

Avoid Lois

DuchessOfSausage · 30/03/2024 15:15

I know a Maisie and it's fine but that's because I'm used to it. One born now will have contemporaries with twee names like Teddy.

DuchessOfSausage · 30/03/2024 15:26

@Flipper95 , just a thought but Lois is popular in Wales, and I think most say it as Loyce. The English one I know says it as Lo-is.

Mumofgirls2017 · 30/03/2024 16:38

Wren

tabitha, Rowan and Heidi like too

MeDaughterMerope · 30/03/2024 19:54

Maisie and Heidi are my personal favourites.
Wren and Rowan probably the most on trend.

miniaturepixieonacid · 30/03/2024 23:23

Marnie - I feel like this should be short for something but I don't know what. It's quite cute.
Tabitha - don't really like this. Just makes me think of cats.
Wren - it's ok. When spoken I'd assume a boy called Ren (but that's because of Footloose which is probably quite a niche reference). I've never met a Wren.
Rowan - love it for a boy. I have met one girl called Rowan and it did suit her.
Maisie - like it. Especially for a child; it's cute.
Heidi - quite like it but I do think of the story and assume German/Austrian/ Swiss heritage.
Lois - it's grown on me in recent years. Didn't used to like it but now I think it's both quirky and elegant.

SageGreenShoes · 30/03/2024 23:37

Marnie - dislike, always hear it in an Australian accent (randomly), makes me think of marmite.
Tabitha - awful - reminds me of a posh cat in a Victorian dress.
Wren - like it, quite sweet for a little girl, but also strong sounding for a woman.
Rowan - love for a girl, but such a popular boy's name these days I'd avoid it.
Maisie - bit twee
Heidi - really twee
Lois - love it, was a name I considered.

Other names you might like - Fern, Carys / Cerys, Iris, Maeve, Tess, Tamsin, Hazel, Lowri, Leila / Layla.

mathanxiety · 30/03/2024 23:54

Marnie - for the life of me, I can't understand the attraction of this name.
Tabitha - nice.
Wren - not great.
Rowan - more a boy name than unisex.
Maisie - too informal.
Heidi - meh.
Lois - nice.

Tabitha and Lois are my favorites here.

BungleandGeorge · 31/03/2024 00:01

They’re all fine. Personally I’ve never particularly liked Heidi

TempsPerdu · 31/03/2024 10:31

I agree with @Grapesandcheesetwo: Tabitha, Rowan or Lois.

Marnie - too nicknamey and trendy-sounding for my taste
Tabitha - love this; it’s classy without being uptight, and I like the slight witchy/feline edge to it
Wren - no, too faddy
Rowan - DD’s middle name - love the unisex feel and nature association (and slight witchy vibe again!). I actually know more girl than boy Rowans but it definitely works for both
Maisie - no, too twee and insipid
Heidi - can’t warm too this, again it’s a tad on the twee/cutesy side
Lois - v nice; like the unfrilly, no nonsense vibe. We know a lovely one.

OverTheCountryClub · 31/03/2024 10:36

I love Tabitha - it's a gorgeous name.
I quite like Heidi and Wren.
I'm not a huge fan of the others.

CocoBellaSparkle · 31/03/2024 23:25

Tabitha - personal reasons sadly means I don’t like this name (I did before though!)

Wren - Very pretty and delicate name and reminds me of another name I love which is Bryn!

Rowan - absolutely love this name! It’s one of those rare names that it’s both unisex so a strong name but for a girl it’s also very pretty ,unique and feminine (and not over used which is always good imo)

Maisie - very pretty and cute for a baby and toddler little girl BUT like the name Poppy it doesn’t sound great for an adult lady imo .. I can’t imagine a business woman or a lawyer being called names like Maisie / Poppy /Daisy etc or being taken seriously (just my opinion - no offence meant )

Heidi - just think of ‘Heidi Hi’ .. don’t like this name at all

Lois - LOVE this name .. it’s both feminine but strong .. for a baby /toddler can be shortened affectionately to ‘Lo Lo’ but still can be a Lois when older etc

Favourites are - Lois and Rowen

then Wren

the others I do not really like

leftkneeonbackwards · 31/03/2024 23:27

Marnie - I don't like it
Tabitha - lovely
Wren - lovely,
Rowan - lovely
Maisie - very common
Heidi - nice, but I prefer Adelaide, and Heidi for short
Lois - I don't like it

CocoBellaSparkle · 31/03/2024 23:28

Sorry forgot Marnie *

Marnie I think was written for Grace Kelly in the classic Hitchcock movies .. but the beautiful Tippi Hedren ended up taking the roles of his iconic movies and she was a Marnie I believe
so because of my love of the old movies and the old school glamour of the Hitchcock ice cool blonde actresses I love Marnie (and I also love Tippi as a name!)

BanditBar · 31/03/2024 23:29

Love Lois.

Rowan & Marnie are awful.

Lilydolly1981 · 31/03/2024 23:30
