If I like Arthur, what else might I like?

I’ve always loved the name Arthur. I know it’s become a lot more popular recently but the reason I’m not going to use it is because a family member who I have no contact with has named their son Arthur so I can’t use it now 😅. The middle name will be Paul after my late FIL. One syllable surname.

I just can’t think of any names I love as much as Arthur. DH has suggested Albert with nickname Albie but I just don’t love it..

I like old fashioned/classic names, nothing too out there 😂

If you like Arthur, use Arthur. It's a popular (top 10 name) so it's not like you've "copied" something unique.

My brother and his wife decided to use our chosen name (that they were very much aware of) for their baby born 2 weeks before ours. There was a little bit of friction from my husband initially (a family name from his side) and I think they were surprised when we stuck to our guns and used the name anyway, but it very quickly became a non-thing. Despite them being close cousins, the same age, and spending a lot of time together (and being in the same year at the same school), they are very different little people and it doesn't really register that they have the same name now - apart from at Christmas when other relatives label their presents without distinguishing which is which!

Don't let someone you don't even have contact with (probably for valid reasons) prevent you from using a name that will be with your child for life.

This.

I have two nephews, Harry and Harrison. Both get called Harry never been an issue. If you love Arthur then use it

Thank you for your suggestions! Some great names to talk through with DH

I adore Harry, that was the name I imagined for a son when I was younger but there is a famous Harry with our surname so it’s put me off a bit. DH says none of the kids will be bothered about is as times have moved on but it’s the first thing I think of 😂

I think I would still have used Arthur if we had just grown apart or fallen out but I’ve got too much anger over how they have treated members of our family that I just can’t get past that unfortunately. It’s not so much me worrying about copying her as such.

Thanks again everyone!
