Thoughts on Henry? (DH great grandads name and we have a good friend called this) Arthur? Samuel? (Family name from my side great uncle) my eldest son's name is Wilfred and I really love his name and daughter's are Rosie and Emily

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

Love Henry & Arthur. Not so keen on Samuel (Sammy).. what about George? I think any of these would go really well with your other names!

JorisBonhson · 09/03/2024 21:30

Henry is my absolute favourite name (and the name of my dearest DS1).

I really like Samuel too.
Arthur and Albert (nn Albie) are both nice and both we had on the list for DS1, I know so many Arthur's now though it didn't make the list for DS2.

DS2 is Laurence and we also considered Alexander, John, Edward and Hugo for him.

Do the other siblings have names with family links too ?

Arthur is having a bit of a moment again now but that kind of fits well with lovely Wilfred - both are retro names that are popular again, where as Henry and Samuel are a bit more steadily used.

I’d personally stick with Arthur, second choice Samuel (assuming you also love Sam as much as that nn is almost a given). Henry would be another “ie/y” name, making Wilfred the odd one out 🤣

My favourite is Samuel. I love that name and would use it myself but DH doesn’t like it as much. I like Henry as well. Arthur and Albert are okay but I probably wouldn’t choose them myself.

Thanks everyone for positive feedback :)

My eldest daughters name doesn't have family links I just liked the name, but with my second daughter she was named after my Grandma and with Wilfred I do have a fabulous great uncle called that but he wasn't exactly named after him as such but the name did have good association.

The family link would probably move Samuel into first place for me then, although it helps that I really love nn Sam even more than the full version (so friendly sounding!).

While Arthur itself is nice enough, I admit I’d be less keen on the possibility of Art/Artie. Henry is lovely too (or with the old nn Hal) - but Harry is just so popular in its own right it puts me off a bit.

Love all your name choices (your current DC and your shortlist!)

Arthur - my favourite- gorgeous vintage vibe like Wilfred

Samuel - a personal favourite of mine and love the family links. More timeless than vintage, like Emily is.

Henry - a great classic, goes particularly well with all your sibling names. Very popular. Love the family links.

Albert - another lovely vintage name. I prefer your other choices though, as I like Albie for a child but not quite so much for an adult, and I’m not quite as keen on Albert as a full name as your other options.

I would personally choose Arthur just based on the name. Or Henry or Samuel if you like the family links.

Love Henry!

SkaneTos · 09/03/2024 23:09

They are all very nice names!
Wilfred, Rosie, Emily, and Henry
Wilfred, Rosie, Emily, and Arthur
Wilfred, Rosie, Emily, and Samuel
Wilfred, Rosie, Emily, and Albert

I am not familiar with the nickname Albie, but it's nice!

My favourite name from you list would be Samuel, but like I wrote, they are all really nice names.

shoopshoopdedoo · 09/03/2024 23:32

I love Samuel! Henry is nice too. Personally, I’m not a fan of Arthur or Albert, though they seem to be v popular at the moment. I love the names of your older children.

Librarybooker · 09/03/2024 23:37

Nice names, I like Henry and we have an Albert (age 5) at church which has made me grow to love the name. He has a brother named Cesar (pronounced Caesar). Somehow it works.

warmcookiedough · 09/03/2024 23:46

Samuel or Henry ❤️

theduchessofspork · 10/03/2024 00:10

They are all solid

Samuel is the least used

Mumofone2024 · 10/03/2024 06:29

I love Albert, Abie for short
I would not chose Samuel, he’ll get Sam - which is just a bit of a boring name tbh!

garlictwist · 10/03/2024 06:31

Love Sam or Samuel. Not so keen on the others.

peaceinourtime · 11/03/2024 14:54

There are thousands of little Albies . Use something else.

MerryChristmasToYou · 11/03/2024 18:53

Favourite is Samuel. The one I don't like is Albert/Albie.

CoconutGirI · 11/03/2024 20:40

I love the name Sam for a boy.
Arthur is nice too. Not keen on rest
