What nickname would you use for Doris?

Personally I think Dolly is silly and childish. I love Doris as it is!

No worse than Teddy.

sunflowerpinks · 07/02/2024 16:41

True, they're both silly names 🧸 !

whirlingdevonish · 07/02/2024 16:51

If you like Doris, call her Doris. Wait and see how the nickname pans out. Nicknames are natural and evolve. Don't try to be weird and pre plan it!

PoodlesRUs · 07/02/2024 16:57

She'll be one of those people who always squirm when they say their name or introduce themselves with a slightly embarrassed look. You can think it as cute as you want but people have connotations of names and she'll pick up on them. Heck, her cultural and social references will be the same as everyone else so she'll may well even acquire the views herself.

just don’t call it doris. call it something normal and not from 1943, like lily

OP is naming a child, not an ‘it’. Incredibly rude of you

SueBranchers · 07/02/2024 21:45

sorry for the offence caused. was hearing about it/itself from my eldest recently and apparently is more respectful (no assuming)? must have been wrong xx

SkaneTos · 07/02/2024 21:54

Doris is a beautiful name!

I have a cousin who has a daughter named Doris (I think the daughter is around 12 years old now), I also have a friend with a daughter named Doris, around age 14. We are Scandinavian.

I think it's a really cute name.

boomingaround · 07/02/2024 21:54

If you like Dot or Dotty as a nickname call her Dorothy instead. It's much prettier and lends itself better to Dot or Dotty as the nickname than Doris does.

Doris is a pig's name to me. It sounds stout and serious and ugly.

TheChosenTwo · 07/02/2024 21:57

If you aren’t planning on calling her by her name before she’s even born just choose a name you actually like and want to call her by 🙄
Nicknames sort of evolve naturally.

I think you mean they/them, surely?

Jeelypieces20storeys · 07/02/2024 23:44

Try introducing yourself as Doris for a few weeks and see what people call you.

Babla · 08/02/2024 00:23

Doris

faffadoodledo · 08/02/2024 06:52

When we were thinking of names for our children we tried doing imaginary BBC reporter sign offs for them..
So try "Doris NicknameforDoris, BBC news, Mogadishu", and see how it might sound coming from the mouth of an adult in 25 years time. It's not a perfect test, but was quite helpful in whittling.

faffadoodledo · 08/02/2024 06:53

Although, apologies, it's not the name you have an issue with, it's simply whether it has a nickname.

confusedbythesystem · 08/02/2024 07:00

How about using some of the other letters? Ris or Rissy?

Veronicaisaflower · 08/02/2024 07:02

Dodo, Dee, Dots - Doris is a cute name!

confusedbythesystem · 08/02/2024 07:02

Or I know a teenage Dora, it's a lovely name, simple and elegant at the same time.

SD1978 · 08/02/2024 07:09

Dory, dotty, dot, dore,
