Girls names, are these a bit too "old lady"?

Florence
Clara
Elsie
Celia / Cecelia
Mabel

This is my shortlist of girls names. I love them (obviously!), but some people have said they're a bit too "old lady".

What do you think?

Any you particularly like /object to?

DD3 is a clara. I don't know any other clara's and everyone loves the name

GrinningSoul · 20/03/2008 22:13

i particularly like Celia. A lot. I wanted it for my dd in fact.

seeker · 20/03/2008 22:14

I like Florence, and Cecelia. Prefer Clare to Clara, Elsa to Elsie and don't like Mabel.

Clemency, anyone?

TreeHuggerMum1 · 20/03/2008 22:14

I absolutely love those names, my faves are Elsie and Florence. Mabel is prob the most old fashioned but its still a lovely name as is Martha.

yogabird · 20/03/2008 22:15

They're all really lovely, except Mabel!

Cecilia is lovely and i think Elsie is really pretty too....

kittywise · 20/03/2008 22:17

What about flora?
Round here there are loads of Florence's and Elsie's, martha's too

Carmenere · 20/03/2008 22:18

I spoke to a Mabel today, she was Spanish, I thought she sounded very glamorous.

PeppermintPatty · 20/03/2008 22:18

Mabel not so good then?

mybrainaches · 20/03/2008 22:18

Old lady names are becoming really popular. But I haven't seen anyone calling their baby Hilda yet - one step too far?

PeppermintPatty · 20/03/2008 22:19

My sis nearly called her DD Mabel but her DH wouldn't allow it!

mybrainaches · 20/03/2008 22:19

Ethel?

mybrainaches · 20/03/2008 22:20

Blanch?

Beauregard · 20/03/2008 22:21

Clara?
Edie?
Madeline?
Trixie?

Heated · 20/03/2008 22:21

Fab names!

Love Mabel and Clara but think Florence and Cecelia are lovely too. Elsie is a bit too 'now' and feels more nicknamey than the others imo.

So I'd choose Mabel, Clara or Florence
