Otto
Oliver

Sadie
Ruby
Persephone

Any one except Everly.

Imnotarestaurant · 31/01/2024 23:40

Although I know that’s not how it’s pronounced, I can’t help but think of Persephone as rhyming with telephone

Any one except Everly.

Mainly this, but also Otto always makes me think of Nazis (irrational I know)

Max and Persephone are my favourites

I might call Max Maximilian or Maximus as a full name, or he might feel a little short changed if he ends up with a sister Persephone

JobMatch3000 · 01/02/2024 00:12

Max or Oliver
Sadie or Beatrix

user1492757084 · 01/02/2024 03:24

All the boy names are handsome.

Of the girls I would use ..
Persephone
Beatrix

Do you like
Sally
Scarlett

DramaAlpaca · 01/02/2024 03:49

Max and Oliver - both fine, really good names.
Felix says 'cat' to me, and Otto is plain ugly.

I love Ruby, it's simple and sweet.
Sadie - OK as a diminutive of Sarah, but not a standalone name.
Beatrix - no, because it would mean Trixie as a diminutive and that's only OK on a pampered dog. Beatrice, on the other hand, is lovely.
Persephone - gorgeous, if you are sure you/she can carry it off.
Everly - absolutely not, in no circumstances whatsoever.

Theoldwoman · 01/02/2024 04:06

Oliver and Beatrix

cariadlet · 01/02/2024 04:43

Felix - cat
Otto - either 18th century, extravagantly moustached German or medieval monk (I get 2 very different mental images for that name)
Everly - hadn't heard of, sounds like a surname
Persephone - pretty but I can't imagine someone having the name in real life (outside mythology), seems a bit much.

Mumofgirls2017 · 01/02/2024 04:52

Otto and Sadie

garlictwist · 01/02/2024 04:53

Otto is not nice. Nor is Persephone. I'm a Beatrix. I have never really liked my name and go by "Bea".

Onelife2024 · 01/02/2024 05:53

I would choose Max or Oliver from your boys list - I love both, but Oliver is everywhere at the moment so it depends if you mind that.

I’m not personally so keen on Felix or Otto, but I don’t hate them.

From your girls names I’d pick Ruby - a gorgeous name. Sadie is also quite nice. Everly is ok because you could shorten to the lovely but overused Eve or Evie, which gives options.

For my taste I wouldn’t like to be called Persephone as it’s a bit pretentious to my ears and the shortenings are a bit informal for work etc as an adult. Beatrix has similar issues as I’m not sure I’d like to introduce myself as either Beatrix or Bea at work (obviously that’s just my personal taste).

I have a Felix.

For some reason on MN everyone instantly says 'cat'.

He's nearly 10 and it's never been mentioned - in fact it was about 6 months ago that he first saw a Felix cat food advert and shouted 'mum there's a cat food with my name on it!'. So don't let the stupidness put you off.

mponder · 01/02/2024 06:33

They all sound like cat names. Unfortunately my child's name is on there too.

I see the name Felix and automatically think of cat but that's nothing to do with the cat food. That hadn't even occurred to me before reading this post.

It's been used as a name for cats long before the manufacturers chose it for their cat food, possibly because it's similar to the word feline.
Felix the Cat, for example, is a cartoon character dating back to the silent film era.

sunflowerpinks · 01/02/2024 07:14

In the UK Felix is a very well known cat food brand 🐈! Like whiskas.

Scottyme · 01/02/2024 07:17

The boys names sound like your naming a dog or cat.

BingoMarieHeeler · 01/02/2024 07:19

Max & Sadie 😍

sunflowerpinks · 01/02/2024 07:57

Your girls names are beautiful and underused. I particularly like Beatrix!

Your boys names are overused (Oliver, Max) or pet names (Felix). There are far nicer names out there imo.

stardust25609 · 01/02/2024 08:05

Max and Sadie would be my choices! Ruby and Oliver very close second. Lovely names.

Flora56 · 01/02/2024 08:11

I like all your boys names.

I think Persephone is quite a bold choice but having said that I like Percy!

I prefer Beatrice to Beatrix and think Bea is nice. Personally I wouldn't choose Everly.

Ladyj84 · 01/02/2024 08:13

Felix the cat lol TV advert

Doublebiscuit77 · 01/02/2024 12:21

I really love Felix, Max, Otto, and for a girl Persephone. Those are head and shoulders above the other names.

Ruby, Sadie and Beatrix aren't bad. Oliver is ubiquitous and a bit dull to me, sorry. I agree with PPs about Everly.

Chanhedforthis · 01/02/2024 12:25

They're all lovely except for Felix

ODFOx · 01/02/2024 12:36

I'd take Otto, Max, Sadie and Everly off the list.
The others are all nice.
Congratulations Smile

KirstenBlest · 01/02/2024 12:38

Felix - no obvious shortening. I can only think of one in my age group and didn't particularly like the name then. Nice meaning
Max - nice but popular
Otto - not keen but it's not awful. None in my age group.
Oliver - nice, classic, not keen on Olly

Sadie - ok
Ruby - ok, not keen on Ru/Rube
Persephone - too long
Everly - dreadful
Beatrix - Beer tricks.

I don't love any of them but Oliver or Max or Sadie

@MotherofWhippets81 , I take it you don't have a cat. It's a popular cat food brand, so it's a bit like if someone says Mr Kipling and everyone posts 'Cake'
