DH has suggested this. I never would've thought of it myself, I don't love it but I don't hate it either.

Thoughts?

Sonny Bono - not a great association, IMO.

Toddlerteaplease · 25/01/2024 21:09

I know a Sonny. He's cute, but the name is just awful and doesn't suit him at all.

bellocchild · 25/01/2024 21:10

Sonny was short for Santino in The Godfather.

wafflingworrier · 25/01/2024 21:14

I hate it. It sounds chavvy and stupid. He is not anyone's "sonny" except yours as his parents, why the heck would you want everyone to call him their son?
Also, what if he doesn't have a sunny temperament? Can you imagine the jokes when he is a teenager every time he has a bad day?
Just no. Please.

2Old2Tango · 25/01/2024 21:17

I'm one of the "hate it" brigade I'm afraid.

muddyford · 25/01/2024 21:18

Dreadful. It's what naughty boys were called when caught by policemen when I was a child. "Now look here, sonny, we know you scrumped the apples."

Mamette · 25/01/2024 21:20

It’s a no from me.

Alltheparmesanplease · 25/01/2024 21:26

Love it!

wafflingworrier · 25/01/2024 21:29

Sunny side up 😂

Barleysugar86 · 25/01/2024 21:29

I know one. It feels fresh and suits him well as a young teen. I think I feel positively about it.

So you feel...sunny about it?😂OK I'll stop now.

itsmyp4rty · 25/01/2024 21:32

It seems that it's a nn for Santino. So maybe have that on the BC and have Sonny as a nn.

LauderSyme · 25/01/2024 21:40

I like it, it was on my list for ds but in the end felt too informal. I also considered it as a nickname for Solomon but that felt too Biblical!

I think MN tends to be rather snobbish about names .... < ducks for cover >

MissMelanieH · 25/01/2024 22:12

I've known 3 Sonnys and they've all had huge behaviour problems, EG vile language, throwing furniture type so sadly the name is ruined for me forever.

Needmorelego · 25/01/2024 22:21

I always thought it was another version of a child being called Dads Name Junior or Dads Name the Second. It's not their actual name.
Unless you're hippies and you could use Sunny 🌞

Newmum110 · 25/01/2024 22:22

Love it 😀

PassMeTheCookies · 25/01/2024 22:26

I'm in the minority here; I like it!

Theyarehere · 25/01/2024 22:40

Love it.

dontblameme · 25/01/2024 22:44

Love it too

Riverlee · 25/01/2024 22:45

Ok name, and I’ve met a few between the ages of baby and twenties. Better than the ubiquitous Teddy that is everywhere (for boys and dogs).

Hummusandstuff · 25/01/2024 22:48

It’s a cute name but won’t age well. I know three but they are Sunil and Sunvir - and my kitten. 😁

Dotchange · 25/01/2024 22:50

Hate Sonny for a boy, but love Sunny for a girl

Avacardo2023 · 25/01/2024 22:54

Only with the middle name Sideup.

Sorry I'm another in the hate it camp. It's not a proper name and I couldn't imagine a professional man having that name.

NewName24 · 25/01/2024 23:02

Pemba · 25/01/2024 18:58

No, it's like a nickname or a term of endearment - 'Sonny Jim' etc. It's not a proper name really. Give him a proper name.

This

Only with the middle name Sideup.

EbbasFleet · 25/01/2024 23:06

Agree it's just a nickname - like son/ sonny - and he needs a proper name!

The sonny I know is quite miserable and difficult so everyone makes jokes about him not being very 'sunny'. So there may be pressure to be cheerful at all times!
