Hello!
So we are expecting baby number 2! I'm after some girl name suggestions to go with sister Orla. I am Irish but DH is English so not at all pushed for another Irish name but equally open.

I love Margot but I feel like it's super popular right now. Heidi also on our list but worried it won't age well. We are after something elegant and timeless. Any name suggestions hugely welcome! Thanks in advance ✨

Thank you so much for the suggestions! Some gooduns to think about.

At the moment I'm actually liking the name Elisabeth - a strong name but lots of NN potential. The only problem is that my ex bestie who I no longer speak with but share some mutual pals, named her first this. Whilst I know you can't own a name I also don't want it getting back to her that I've also called her this ...not sure why really. Maybe the thought of her thinking I've copied her or something. Sadly she is this Petty. A part of me thinks it's nothing to do with her and the other keeps a niggle on this. I have loved this name for a long time but didn't call my first this for this very reason. Can I have some honest opinions please?

The other name DH likes and I do too is Florence NN Florrie 🥰

I'm happy for total honestly here...please don't try and protect my feelings 😂

DD number 2 ✨
Hello!
We have our second daughter on the way. I recently posted about names and got some great suggestions.

I really like the name Elisabeth - a strong name but lots of NN potential. I have loved this name for a long time and we seem to be struggling finding a name we both love, but didn't call my first this for this very reason. Can I have some honest opinions and thoughts on this please?

The other name DH likes and I do too is Florence NN Florrie 🥰

Elisabeth is lovely and as you say has loads of options for short versions - perhaps if you picked a different short version to your ex best friend? I would absolutely use the name if it’s your favourite but totally get that there seem to be some complex dynamics here and only you know if it would make you feel uncomfortable or not?

I like Florence - it goes nicely with Orla - possibly more than Elisabeth does? But how well it goes with Orla probably isn’t a big deal. The only slight drawback to Florence (in my opinion) is that the short versions don’t work quite as well for adults, but as it’s only a two syllable name, it might not get shortened much anyway.

I think I prefer Florence! You could use Flo as a nn too. I think it sounds lovely with Orla

mommyandmore · 14/02/2024 19:12

Thank you all for your comments! DH has mentioned Sylvia/Sylvie and I kind of like it!
What do you think of this name? Bit of a wild card! As you can tell I'm ridiculously indecisive

Personally not keen on Sylvia, I associate it with people 50+
Sylvie is lovely and different

Onelife2024 · 14/02/2024 21:08

I prefer Florence or Elisabeth to Sylvia or Sylvie, personally. Love pp suggestion of Elspeth too.

Could also go Floraidh?

Sylvie/Sylvia are on their way back up in the UK
