Hi, my husband and I are expecting our 4th baby. We are struggling with girl names (think it's easier to choose for boys). She was conceived in San Francisco so we are trying to think of names that remind us of where she was made. My husband likes Cali (as in california) but I'm not that keen. Any suggestions? I like unusual names so you can be creative 😉 Thanks 😊

Other than that I really like Ophelia but my husband doesn't like it 😭

Fran, Francesca, Frances (i.e. San Fran)
Vallie, Valentina (i.e. Silicone Valley)
Goldie (i.e. GGB)
Calliope (I.e. California)

You could do something that could shorten to Cali like Calliope or Calista.

Names that to me have a similar vibe to Ophelia:

Violet
Verity
Rosanna / Rosalind / Rosalie
Octavia
Venetia (could squeeze out a cali connection as in Venice Beach lol)

I think San Fran is known as the golden city and California as the golden state so you could look for names that mean golden, I think Aurelia does which I like and think has a similar feel to Ophelia.

Clara
Celeste
Orla

Might meet your tastes 😬

Otherwise Frankie, Francesca

Maybe Google facts about SF and see if it gives any inspiration.

Aww thanks everyone, some lovely unique names there. Will pick my favorites and present them to my DH and get his opinion 😆

Can't sleep so I did some googling.

Levi Strauss invented denim jeans in San Francisco for the Gold Rush miners who needed durable yet comfortable clothing.

Motto(s): Oro en Paz, Fierro en Guerra
(Spanish for 'Gold in Peace, Iron in War')

Alma
Alma de Bretteville Spreckels was an old-school SF socialite and philanthropist who—along with her husband Adolph—gifted the city many an iconic institute including the Legion of Honor. Most famously, though, she’s the model for the statue in the middle of Union Square (Dewey Monument).

Dolores
It’s not just a beautiful street name or your favorite parkk. It's the namesake of the first mission in SF (which is also home to one of the only cemeteries within the city proper). Even more fun, it's also the name of Dolores Huerta,, who fought for migrant worker rights and co-founded National Farm Workers in 1962.

Marina or Marin
If you like the neighborhood you'll love the name, but don't forget it also means "of the sea" so it's fitting for an SF kiddo no matter their zipcode. Alternatively, you could go with Marin, for our neighbors to the north

Laurel (Laurel Canyon is in LA)

Ursula (the Golden Bear features on the CA state flag)
