I’m be only seen it as Amaya, as in PJ Masks.

My Daughter’s name is Liana. A variation spelling of Liyana. In Arabic Liana means softness, tenderness and delicacy. in French it means the grace and elegance of a vine, reflecting natural beauty and growth. Liana’s are vines, climbing plants or climbers. Bougainvillea flowers and grapes are an example of a Liana. Cute nickname for Liana is Lily.

Amaya is lovely and my favourite, but I'd definitely spell it like that. Deena sounds dated to me, but Liyana is quite nice.

If you live in England, Deena is the only logical choice. It is pronounced phonetically. Amya will always be pronounced like Anya. I actually prefer Liyana to Deena, but I think you'd have to Westernise the spelling or else it would be a PITA. The Yana will be pronounced like Russian way.

Amya is pronounced “am-maya”
Liyana is pronounced lee-ah-na
Deena - dee-nah

They won't be pronounced like that in the uk by native English speakers so I would amend the spelling if that's the pronunciation you want. Amaya and Liana would be more likely to get the pronunciation you want.

Teach a Liyana. Just realised I gave been saying her name wrong. Amya never seen spelt like that, see Amaya with some of Afro-Caribbean kids. Amya, I would sat Amaya but is there a chance some say Amy a or Am ya. Deena never heard. Heard Deeya. As a rule of thumb I would not give a child a name that they have to keep correcting- exhausting for them

miniaturepixieonacid · 22/07/2024 15:48

Amya - Amaya is one of my favourite names. I wouldn't have thought to pronounce this spelling that way (I'd have guessed Am-ya like An-ya) but I'd learn as would anyone else confused so it that's how you want to spell it, I'd go for it. I've seen Amaya, Amaiya, Amaia and Amaiyah so Amya is just another variant, I'm sure!

Deena - not keen but that's possibly because I've only ever known one and I didn't like her do it's coloured the name for me.

Liyana - fine. In the UK it's quite 80s/90s but that doesn't follow that it is for you. I wouldn't have any problems with that spelling in pronouncing it Lee-arn-a, that seems natural to me.

Amayas and Anayas are popular where I am, and while they look pretty written they aren't nice sounding. They sound like Uh-uh-uh.

Everleigh13 · 22/07/2024 18:27

I like Amya and Liyana. Yes, you’ll have to give the pronunciations a few times but once you know I think they are quite easy to remember. They are nice names in my opinion.
