Is Bruce due a comeback?

OopsOutnumbered123 · 19/12/2023 11:37

I’m pregnant with my second son and we quite like Bruce as a first name, however it gets a very mixed response off our families when we discuss it. Is it due a comeback do you think? Or are pregnancy hormones disrupting my thinking 🤔😅

OP posts:

There are two babies called Bruce at my son’s nursery, so maybe the comeback has already started?!

theduchessofspork · 19/12/2023 22:15

I know a lovely Bruce (Australian too!) and a complex, slightly shifty but interesting Bruce.

On balance, no, it is a bit of a comedy name for some reason, so might be best to wait for a full revival and it’s too early for that.

Oh well that’s different then - go forth

I vote Yes for Bruce, tho I predict peak comeback is still a decade away. Get ahead of the wave, OP!
Bruce is such a good name. It's Scottish, solid and packs a stack of sounds into a single syllable.
PPs have commented on its Australian flavour. I split my year between Melbourne and Sydney and have observed that Bruce is not that common but is striking when encountered. People like it, it amuses them, and it works for all ages.

Bruce is a fine and handsome name.

Amdone123 · 20/12/2023 04:03

At the start of this thread, I was thinking no....but it's growing on me, already.
Love Angus and I know one with brothers Henry and Alistair - gorgeous.

Forgottenmypasswordagain · 20/12/2023 04:09

Bruce is a great name, on my unused boys names list. I love Ross also, and Paul.

NotFastButFurious · 20/12/2023 07:07

Angus and Bruce is a good combo! I’d imaging them to grow up to be 6ft 5 strapping lads with ginger hair!

stepintochristmas1 · 20/12/2023 07:35

I always think of Robert the Bruce when I hear this name . Good Scottish name .

No stereotyping there then.
The Angus and Bruce I know are quite short and slim, one dark-haired and the other fair-haired.

Westwindworries · 20/12/2023 14:05

It's DS2's middle name (family name) and one of DS1's classmates also has Bruce as a middle name (also a family name).

I think it's on the way back.

UsernameIsHarderThanBabyName · 21/12/2023 16:04

Love it

makeminealargeoneagain · 21/12/2023 16:09

Nice to see you...to see you...Nice.
Sorry OP, it's a no from me for bringing back Bruce.

KirstenBlest · 21/12/2023 20:20

Children born now won't know who Bruce Forsyth was.

Justfinking · 21/12/2023 20:22

God no. It's a name for a 40 year old Australian man

Justfinking · 21/12/2023 20:23

Except in this case, it's only OK for a sexy Scotsman

SpringIntoChaos · 21/12/2023 20:23

Get in now OP, before the official comeback starts...be in the vanguard so to speak. It's a cool name 🥰

Housenoob · 23/12/2023 00:42

I do like it, but it is a bit of a comedy name. I think of both:

'Hallo, my name is Bruce. Fish are friends not food' Finding Nemo

And

'You can do it Bruce!!!' Matilda cheering on poor Bruce Bogtrotter eating the cake

Christmasconcerts · 23/12/2023 00:48

It’s funny as like another poster it has grown on me! When people list famous Bruces I realise they are out there but I just think of 1Bruce1 … if you know, you know …

MrsSlocombesCat · 19/12/2023 12:41

I think if was ever going to make a comeback it would have been when Bruce Forsyth died. When I was pregnant with my second child 42 years ago my ex husband wanted to call him Bruce. I decided on Callum which was quite unusual at the time, not so much now!

Disagree. The Boss dying is when it will happen. He's 74.

Yes I think it's going to have a comeback.

User6761 · 23/12/2023 11:19

I went to school with an amazing guy, now in his mid 40s, called Bruce. So the name has positive connotations for me. I like it.

KirstenBlest · 23/12/2023 12:44

It depends on whether you know someone with the name.
I know a Bruce from work so it seems a normal name.
I know a little boy called Arnold, a young man called Bernard, etc so they just seem like underused names.

Only if you're expecting a Labrador.

IMHO, obviously.

FrostieBoabby · 24/12/2023 14:48

Not a fan of it, personally think it's a surname or big boofy dog name.
