We are thinking about Holly for our daughter. Give me your honest opinion, please.

Is it too dated? We know that most Hollys are probably in their 20s and 30s now. We love it and I personally think that between all of the girls named Ivy and Daisy it doesn't stand out in a bad way.

Other name on our list are: Ruby, Lily, Ella, Poppy, Stella. We would appreciate comments on our list.

I actually have a few friends with Holly’s. All with the Y spelling. All in their twenties now.

They are:

Holly Jane
Holly Louise
Holly Tayla
Holly Katherine
Holly Elizabeth
Holly Michaela

I know 3 holly’s…
1 x 20 yr old
1 x 10 yr old
1 x 2 yr old

so I think it covers all ages…..

Holly is a beautiful name.
My favourite on your list. :)

Prettysparkles1 · 25/08/2024 16:55

Our little girl is going to be called Holly for her first name. For her middle name I would like her named after my granny, Sylvia. Which name works best.....Sylvia, or it's shorter version of Sylvie or Sylvi ? If the latter, which would be the best spelling? Thank you!

Love Holly and my favourite by far from your list.

magdamaple · 25/08/2024 17:44

I prefer Stella.

All the Hollys I know are in their thirties.

Squirrelsnut · 25/08/2024 17:47

Love Holly. It's sweet but not cute and suits an adult too.

NewMe2024 · 25/08/2024 17:51

Gorgeous name. Not dated.

DuchessOfSausage · 25/08/2024 18:00

@Prettysparkles1 , Sylvie. Sylvi looks wrong. Holly's a nice name. I think it's a sensible name and not twee or fussy.
If you are honouring someone, I'd use their name but I much prefer Sylvie.

Lovely name

TheFormidableMrsC · 25/08/2024 18:54

I've got a Holly! It's such a pretty name. It really suits her. She's just coming up to 26.

TheFormidableMrsC · 25/08/2024 18:55

I've just realised this is an old thread I've already posted on 🙄

Fathercrispness · 25/08/2024 18:57

Holly was on my shortlist 3 years ago. I nearly went with it. It’s lovely- not too super popular but fits it as you say with all the Lilly’s and Daisy’s out there (the Rebecca’s and Claire’s of this generation) It shouldn’t date too horribly.

Shutupyoutart · 25/08/2024 18:59

I've got a Hollie love the name :)

MinervaMcGonagallsCat · 25/08/2024 19:00

Holly and Lily are great. Ella is ok.

17caterpillars1mouse · 25/08/2024 19:16

Holly is a nice, classical name and has a stronger feel than alotbof the twee flower names. I also think Iris is a lovely, strong name. I don't think it sounds dated and whilst I don't know any baby or toddler Holly's I do know a few aged 7 and 8

Ruby - i like Ruby, again it has a strong sound and i think it ages well. I know its high up in the name charts, but its not actually a name i have come across regularly.

Lily - done to death, especoally if paired with May or Grace. I imagine it is going to date massively. Its a pretty name in the middle name spot but as a first name its very meh

Ella - i like Ella as long as the plan isnt to nn her Ellie

Poppy - don't get the love for this at all. Sounds nice on a dog

Stella - I just think of the lager and its reputation

Holly is a beautiful name and always feels quite timeless to me rather than trendy or fashionable.
It's also a name that suits a child and adult too which isn't always the case!
If you love it, I say go for it
