Is Vivienne going to be faddy?

I thought of it as quite a classic name but have heard it screeched in the park and supermarket a few times lately. Is it going to be a 2024 Arlo?

I think it’s a gorgeous name!

CousinGreg55 · 15/12/2023 13:25

I'm not keen. I wouldn't say it's a classic. It reminds me of Patricia/Barbara era of names

TheSuggestedAmendment · 15/12/2023 13:26

It’s a bit of a hassle to spell. Might be worth bearing in mind.

MrsSamR · 15/12/2023 13:26

I wouldn't say so where I am (South-West) - I've actually never heard of one!

I don’t really mind that, I’m looking for something that isn’t a vowel-y liquid name

Vivienne's are very young or in their 70s named after Vivien Leigh.

auburnglow788 · 15/12/2023 13:48

That's a beautiful name

That’s what I’m concerned about, is it going to suddenly spike in popularity?

Vivienne was on my list for DS2 10 years ago (but he was a boy obvs), and I still love it. Along with Valentina. Gorgeous names.

I only know one other Vivienne and she's 8, but should be noted I don't live in UK so have no idea how popular it's become over there.

BathTangle · 15/12/2023 14:41

Only Vivienne I know is a very glamorous woman in her 60s. I think it's a lovely name.

It's nothing like those two names though. It's much prettier.

alrighthen · 15/12/2023 14:53

I know so many (all babies) High chance it’s the Arlo of its time but very beautiful nonetheless.

daisypond · 15/12/2023 15:13

I think it’s going to be faddy, yes.

theduchessofspork · 15/12/2023 23:29

I like it, but it does seem to have shot up

How about Verity?

ZinniaB · 16/12/2023 20:04

Yes I think def faddy, a little naff (sorry) . Usually the case when a name has been used by a famous person (Angelina Jolie) and I’ve seen it steadily increase since. Darkgreener shows it’s massively climbed but also remains fairly underused

I much prefer the sleekness and more classic feel to Vivian (as used by Gisele & Tom Brady). Vivien is a French masculine form.

Personally if you want something classic, not vowel-liquidy I’d look to literature and I love Shakespearean girls names: Beatrice, Cressida, Portia, Juliet, Hermione, Cordelia, Viola - so classy and so not faddy.

I like it
not come across any small Viviennes (north west)

tokesqueen · 16/12/2023 20:24

My SIL is mid 50's. She gets Viv. Horrible.
North West.

ChanelNo19EDT · 16/12/2023 20:26

I had Vivien on my list 20 years ago! So obviously I don't see it as a fad, given that I still like it.

But that’s not Vivienne.

Raemum123 · 17/12/2023 12:20

theyll just get called Viv when older I know an old man and woman both called Viv not for me

MikeRafone · 17/12/2023 12:22

I’ve heard a couple of Vivienne and Veronica’s recently

fluffiphlox · 17/12/2023 12:24

I know two. One is in her 60s and the other her 70s.

thatsnotmywean · 17/12/2023 12:33

its one of those names that depends on where you live and your class.

Very unlikely in the west of scotland!

autienotnaughty · 17/12/2023 12:40

It's beautiful although I'm not keen on Viv. I also like Valarie although again not a fan of Val.

ArsenicInTheAppleTart · 17/12/2023 12:47

It's of the Margot, Evelyn, Esme style of names, which is a popular group of names at the moment. I even know two families where they have girls called Vivienne and Margot. So it's certainly on the rise.

I don't think it's like Arlo though as that name is only in fashion for the first time whereas Vivienne has been in and out of fashion a few times at this point.
