Boys name conundrum

Nervynellis · 12/12/2023 14:16

Hello

We’re expecting a baby boy but we’re really stuck for names. We’d like a classic name but not too popular, ideally short or with a short nickname.

unfortunately, as older parents all the obvious ones have been snapped up by close friends and family (George, Benjamin, James, John, William, Harry, Henry, Jude, Max, Sebastian, Miles, Theodore the list goes on)

So far we like Samuel (Sam), Gabriel (Gabe) and Rafael (Raf/e).

id love something a bit unusual but I’m drawing a real blank. Any help gratefully received.

my eldest is Raf (Rafael), love it and always get positive comments even though he’s an adult now.

Gabriel and Reuben (Reub) would have been next choices but I had two girls.

Seb and Matty are nice shortened names too.

I really like Rafe and Gabriel. Samuel is also nice (and not that common).

I also like:
Caspar/Cas
Laurence /Laurie
Thomas/Tom
Rupert/Roo

I love Rafe!

Albie is sweet

There’s lot of A names I like at the minute. Ari and Arnie/Arne too

Love the R names as well. Reese, Rafe, Ralph

Or Reuben, my favourite of all time

How about Stefan or Oliver? Alexander?

Btw - It is ok to use the same name as someone you know - they're not the only George etc in the first place.

GreatGateauxsby · 13/12/2023 04:11

All three were on my shortlist. I went with name no 4! 😬

Sam / Samuel is my fave of the three but only by a hair's breadth.
I loved raef / Rafael but it was weird with our surname.

Edward - Ted/Ned

Isn't Ed the most intuitive nickname?

Others have said it but I agree Nathaniel fits the bill perfectly, with Nat/Nate as a nickname. It was on my list but we had a girl!

Russell, can be shortened to Russ. 💪
