Twin Boy Names

Hoping to find some ideas for twin boy names to go with the surname Hesford.

We've always struggled so much with boys names, and then finding out we were having two has made it twice as hard!

We prefer more traditional names such as
-Arthur
-Jack
-Harry (but not with our surname unfortunately. Makes me think of Harry Hill?!)

  • Henry (as above)
  • William
-George

Less traditional

  • Archie
  • Alfie

We cannot agree on two names at all, but know for definite that we prefer a traditional style name, but cannot for the life of us pick two!

My twin boys are Max and Luca.

I'd get used to saying the names both ways around and encourage family to do the same so that they aren't `The twins' with one name always first.

I had the height chart and door plaque made opposite ways around on purpose too to encourage this.

Matching names is obviously a personal choice but I wanted their names to be individual of each other.

I also don't call them the twins and have found that family and friends have followed my lead (though nursery do call them this 😑).

Congratulations on your twins!

Leonard and Vincent. Lenny or Ned and Vinny

@CherryBlossom100
You seem to have a good approach with the names of your twins! (And everything else too).

I went to school with identical girl twins with the names Laura and Linda, and they were called "LauraLinda". Like one name. They were made into one entity.

@MerryChristmasToYou
"Elder twin gets one name, younger twin gets a name that comes before it in the alphabet
e.g. Tom & Arthur, not Alexander & Zachary"

Is there a specific reason for this?
I am not disagreeing with you, I 'm just curious! I have never heard this reasoning before.

MerryChristmasToYou · 04/12/2023 09:30

@SkaneTos , I gave an example of two long names - I'd avoid because the two names together is 8 syllables, and it's so much easier to say 'The Twins', which implies they are a pair not two individuals.

Similarly, matching names (e.g. Miles and Mabel, Xander & Xavier, Lola & Luna ) implies a pair.

Say you had girl twins, called the elder one Anna and the younger one Zoe, they'll be 'Anna and Zoe', Zoe always comes after Anna.
If you name the first one Zoe and the second Anna, they'll be 'Zoe and Anna' but list them alphabetically like on lists, filing systems, school register etc and Anna will come first.

Where you are in the set of siblings has an effect on your personality, and given that the second-born child is only minutes younger, it gives a bit of equality.

@MerryChristmasToYou
That makes sense!
Thank you for answering!

MerryChristmasToYou · 04/12/2023 18:31

@SkaneTos , you're welcome. There are many twins in the extended family but not immediate family.

The pecking order thing is a bit strange because it can be a bit 'heir and a spare' or something like the sibling set is boy, boy, girl+boy.

I have twin grandsons. Don’t give them names with the same initials as having same date of birth can be difficult eg A Surname dob 1/1/23 and A Surname dob 1/1/23 - can cause difficulties with forms etc. We don’t really call them the twins it’s usually the boys. Interestingly their name order changes depending on whether we are saying full names or nicknames as when one gets shortened it starts with a different letter.

I love Benjamin and William together. Wouldn’t necessarily have to call William Bill in fact I’m guessing you probably wouldn’t!
