Any feedback/suggestions for a girl's name please?

Hi! I'd love some suggestions for a girl's name. Here are my top 3. All of the names mean something special to me, but I'd be grateful for some honest feedback.

Jessie Maeve Williams
after Jessica Jones – a model of strength in adversity (and she’d be named after a female superhero!)
Maeve – a strong female name, a variation of my Grandma’s nickname, meaning intoxicating
My name is Kate. I think Kate and Jess go well together (I’m going to be a single mum and so we will be a little team)
Maeve Harper-Rae Williams
MHW – my Grandma’s initials
‘Harper’ meaning the player of the vibrations of the universe and 'Rae' meaning light
I also love the name Harper because of Harper Lee!
Maeve Aurora Williams
A powerful female name with a magical and kind of enchanting vibe
‘Aurora’ meaning dawn – symbolising new beginnings

Thank you!

Maeve Harper but drop the Rae

Agree. Rae and Harper are both lovely but a bit twee together also long-winded for a middle name.
Harper Maeve is nice too.

JauntyRedShoes · 08/11/2023 01:24

I like Aurora Maeve, Harper Rae (Rae as a standalone middle name). Jessie Rae Williams sounds good to me too.

noooooooo · 08/11/2023 01:51

Jessie Rae is ace, sounds like a country act, in a very good way. Harper Rae is also strong but feels quite ‘now.’ Not sure Jessie Maeve reads right. Jessica Maeve, but with DD being called Jessie by her F&F, feels more balanced.

Maeve Harper probably ties with Jessie Rae as my favourite configuration, it’s feminine, ageless, dignified and a tribute to your GM. Maeve ticks the superhero box too (though maybe a bit of a complex role-model!)

Aurora feels kind of crammed in as a middle name, it has a great meaning but also, to me, it’s not as cool as your other options. I like the way you’re trying out her name with yours as a little team, that’s lovely.

Maeve Harper but drop the Rae

This! Rae is so awfully common and overdone these days, not a nice meaning either (ewe in Hebrew). Maeve and Harper are both absolutely lovely - great choices

WednesdaysChild50 · 08/11/2023 02:22

-Rae names always makes me think of people on reality shows (similar to -Mae names)

Aria999 · 08/11/2023 03:11

I like Jessie. I have never liked Maeve (like maud it always sounds ugly and old fashioned to me)

Rae was my mum's middle name so it has a special meaning for me too.

Aurora is ok but a bit Disney and as someone pointed out on another thread recently, though if she can't pronounce 'R's.

What's your grandmother's actual name, would that be an option?

KateJW95 · 08/11/2023 03:52

Thank you! I had originally thought of Jessica, but everyone seemed to cringe when I suggested it, so Jessie seemed a good alternative.

My grandma's name was Mary, but everyone called her Mae. :)

I think you're right about Aurora. Definitely want to avoid the whole Disney thing. Going to drop that one from the list. :)

Jessie Maeve Williams
Jessica is great. Jessie sounds like Jesse, so use the full form on the BC

Maeve – Not keen

Maeve Harper-Rae Williams
Ditch the -Rae. It's awful. Not keen on Maeve or Harper

Harper is a surname, as is Rae. Baby name sites can carry duff info.

I also love the name Harper because of Harper Lee! - her name was Nelle

Maeve Aurora Williams
Not keen on Maeve or Aurora.

From your names, I'd use Jessica Aurora Wms or Jessica Maeve Wms, known as Jess

peaceinourtime · 08/11/2023 12:05

Jessie, it can just be Jessie on its own. Fun fact, a former work colleague i had was called Jesse- the male way, spelt that way as her mum thought that how it was spelt.

LambMomo · 08/11/2023 12:42

Rae is the equivalent of Rose/May/Grace in terms of filler middle names that all girls seem to have at the minute.

Jessica is lovely! If you like it then use it, who cares what anyone else thinks? It’s a perfectly nice normal name.

I like your first choice.

Aria999 · 08/11/2023 12:47

Jessa is an alternative long form (though I don't think you need one)

Ittastesvile · 08/11/2023 15:43

I love Jessica and Jessie, so I vote for Jessie! I ultimately don't think middle names matter much, so whichever is most meaningful to you is what matters.

How about Jessamy or Jessamine?

Aria999 · 08/11/2023 15:45

You could also consider Mary and other
variants as ways to honor your grandmother;

Maria
Mariah
Marion
Marianne
Marie

OopsieeDaisy · 08/11/2023 16:26

Jessica Maeve is lovely, I much prefer Jessica as the full name with Jessie as a nn if you decide to shorten it.

IamnotwhouthinkIam · 09/11/2023 01:02

Jessica Mary for me, Jessica Kate or even Jessica Mary Kate? Classic sounding names, that suits all ages. I think it's nice if kids have the "full" version of a name so they have options - she could be called Jess/Jessie/Jecca etc depending on her preference when older. I also think it's lovely if middle names honour relatives and so have a link to family history (but don't see the point in changing - Mae/Mary to Maeve as they have no etymology in common?).

Harper, Rae, Aurora, Maeve are nice enough names but all quite trendy at the moment - as sadly is Mae/May as a middle name, although it would make a lovely first name?

BoleynMemories13 · 09/11/2023 06:39

Jessica Mary or Jessica Mae nn Jessie

I'm really not keen on Maeve. I just hear Dave but with an M.
