Ella?

Thoughts on Ella?

Not pregnant at the moment but I’ve been given the all clear on my fertility (stage 3 endo & cysts were removed). While I was under anesthetic, I dreamed of having a newborn daughter called Ella

It wasn’t a name I’ve ever considered, but now it’s just stuck in my head. My mother has always loved the name too, and I was stuck on finding an “honor” name for her (as she hates her own name). Popularity or being considered “boring” isn’t an issue for me either

Ella is lovely 😍

CanIPetThatDawg · 05/11/2023 02:45

it's a flimsy name

ammyy · 05/11/2023 08:52

Ella is lovely! I would pair it with a more unusual middle name😊

kezzykicks · 05/11/2023 08:54

I think it is beautiful, classic but still fresh.

KirstenBlest · 05/11/2023 09:09

I think it's a bit nothingy, blends into all the Ellie, Eleanors, Elodie, Eliana, Elena, Helena, Evie, Eva, Isla type names, and sounds tired.

Torganer · 05/11/2023 09:15

I much prefer Ava to Ella. Ava sounds more elegant. I don’t think Ella is a classic name at all like some PP, it’s a nickname, which is fine and I like nicknames as full names, but I wouldn’t say it was a classic/elegant name at all.

Prefer Elle

Sandysandwich · 05/11/2023 09:17

I really like Ella, it sounds like a book character and is one of those great names that suits lots of people

Bugdem123 · 05/11/2023 09:19

I love Ella. Really classic, solid name for. I wouldn't use as it's too close to my own name but I do really like it.

Nokoolaidherethanks · 05/11/2023 09:21

I'm a fan of names ending -a for girls and Ella would have been our choice for our third child after two girls both ending -a but we had a boy so never used it. I much prefer it to Ellie and Elle (with this, people never know whether to say 'el' or 'ellie')
I don't think it's overused now either.

I really like Ella, it’s popular for a reason and not as overused as some names at the moment.

I always think of the song by France Gall, Ella, elle l'a, and start humming it in my head.

BoleynMemories13 · 05/11/2023 13:11

Nice name. I like Ava too.

Ella seemed to have it's popularity peak during the 00s, so most would be teenagers to early 20s now. I've been teaching for 13 years and have only actually taught 1 Ella (who would be about 17 now), although I remember several from when I was training in the late 00s. I also know a 3 year old Ella, but she's the only little one I know.

MollsDolls · 08/05/2024 21:10

I've an Ella too and she loves her name as do I.

greengreyblue · 08/05/2024 21:12

It’s beautiful and so is my 23 year old .

1yearplan · 11/05/2024 17:46

Love it!

Skybluepinky · 11/05/2024 19:20

Over used and it’s a popular dogs name.

greengreyblue · 11/05/2024 20:44

Haven’t heard any dogs called Ella and I know a lot of dogs and owners.

Unexpectedlysinglemum · 11/05/2024 22:41

It's lovely and pretty. Be warned the baby food pouches are called Ella's kitchen so everyone will always use your daughters name constantly while weaning 'I've got an Ella's pouch for her' etc

It’s Rihanna for me. ‘Under my um-ber-ella, ella, ella…’.

Theoldwoman · 12/05/2024 21:17

Mine was named after Ella Fitzgerald.
