Father & Son too similar?

DH is Dan(iel) and we like Dylan for our DS expected soon.
Too similar? Or doesnt it matter as they are father and son and not brothers?
We have a girl with another, completely different name so no other patterns in the family.

I wouldn't say they're similar apart from sharing the same first letter and even if they were similar, would it really matter?

AutumnIsMyFriend · 30/10/2023 13:18

Not too similar at all

DustyLee123 · 30/10/2023 13:30

No.

toastofthetown · 30/10/2023 14:30

Not too similar. I know brothers called Daniel and Dylan.

RoseRows · 30/10/2023 14:55

Absolutely fine

DeireadhFomhair · 30/10/2023 15:04

They're fine as father and son names. I know plenty sons with the same know as their father.

BoleynMemories13 · 30/10/2023 18:11

They're not at all similar apart from sharing the same first letter. I don't understand the problem?

I thought it was going to be something like Luke and Lucas, Jack and Zach, Matt and Max, Harry and Henry etc which could all be slightly confusing for different reasons.

Daniel and Dylan are nothing alike! Go for it if that's what you like.

I wouldn't think they were similar.
Not an issue.

theduchessofspork · 30/10/2023 22:07

It’s fine.

Xmasbaby11 · 30/10/2023 22:10

To me they’re similar and I’d mix them up. D and l and n in both of them.

I know a son and dad called Archie and Charlie and I find it so hard to get it right. I mean obviously I can, but he’s 4 now and I still have to think about it!

could be just me of course!

DramaAlpaca · 30/10/2023 22:16

It's fine

Thanks for all your input, overthinking as usual!
To me there are lots of similar letters in them so wasnt sure if this would be jarring but glad to hear not.

Sons often used to have the same name as their fathers. I love Daniel, but I'm afraid that Dylan reminds me of the stoned and dopey rabbit on The Magic Roundabout.

I think it's ok because, although Dan and Dylan both end in 'an', the pronunciation is different. It's Dil-un, rather than the harder sounding 'an' in Dan. The extra syllable in Dylan also helps them to sound different enough to get away with.

Go with what you love.
