Too 90s?

I tend to get fixated on lovely names and then put myself off.

Current favourite is Naomi for a few reasons, but with everyone going very cool / younique at the moment would it stand out for wrong reasons?

Also considering Romy, clearly like the sound!

I’ve got one of these!! Mine is feisty, full of joy, extremely kind, protective, fiercely loving, beautiful beyond measure oh and smells unbelievably cute!!

Aaaaaaaaaaw. So sweet

Parker231 · 29/10/2023 13:13

Love the name Naomi. The one I know has a sister Phoebe.

BeingATwatItsABingThing · 29/10/2023 13:16

Naomi is nice but only when pronounced Nay-oh-me.

Don’t like Romy. Feels like a nickname.

murasaki · 29/10/2023 13:17

Top choice, but then I may be biased as it's my name.

Londonlondon4 · 29/10/2023 13:25

Naomi is beautiful.

Longdarkcloud · 29/10/2023 15:13

I like both those names.
Interesting fact about Naomi. There is a Japanese name Naomi, though I’ve no idea how the Japanese pronounce it. Many years ago I had a pen friend in Shingagawa-ku who had a DD called Naomi and he assured me that it was a genuine Japanese name.

DuchessOfSausage · 29/10/2023 15:22

It is japanese name, but I don't know if it is the same name and it happens to work in Japanese, or if it's a Japanese-origin name completely independently
They say it as Nah-oh-mi

muddyford · 29/10/2023 15:37

It's a biblical name (Old Testament so several thousand years of use) and very beautiful.

ScarletWitchM · 29/10/2023 15:46

My daughter is a Naomi. She loves it as is not too odd, but is also not too common! She was the only Naomi at school and has met a few at Uni. We love her name as does she!

ScarletWitchM · 29/10/2023 15:49

Also to add ours is a Nay-oh-mi & often gets called Ni-o-mi which she hates but tolerates

PrincessHoneysuckle · 29/10/2023 15:52

I knew one pronounced Naya -mi but the usual pronunciation is Ni-omi

Derrymum123 · 29/10/2023 16:02

A beautiful name. I prefer it pronounced as Nay-oh-me. But other variables are also nice.

HappiDaze · 29/10/2023 16:14

Naomi is a fairly timeless name

tianabiscuit · 29/10/2023 16:37

Naomi isn't too 90s at all. I would call it classic.

I have a great-aunt and a friend (in her late 40s like me) with the name. A couple of younger-than-me Naomis at work as well.

And it still doesn't sound dated. It's a lovely name. I chose my daughter's name (Amy) for the same reason.

Vitriolinsanity · 29/10/2023 17:43

I think it's a lovely name.

I addition, every Naomi I've met has been a total sweetie.

yes to Naomi

Longdarkcloud · 30/10/2023 16:27

Thank you @DuchessOfSausage , that’s interesting to know. Judging by the age of my friend and the times in which he grew up I doubt it was anything but a traditional Japanese name.

PrincessHoneysuckle · 29/10/2023 15:52

No, it isn't! It's NOT ni omi, but nay omi.

DuchessOfSausage · 30/10/2023 17:06

@PrincessHoneysuckle , where do you get the Ni part from?
It's Nah-omi or Nay-omi

JesusMaryAndJosephAndTheWeeDon · 30/10/2023 17:19

It is lovely, and not too nineties at all. I had a friend by the name of Naomi and she would have been born in the 70s, I currently have a work colleague by the same name born in the 80s.

I prefer it being pronounced nay-omi rather than nye-omi
