Felix and Casper sibset - posh?

A lovely lady I know through work has named her sons Felix and Casper. Both lovely names imo, although together I think they sound rather posh. What do you think? If it makes any difference, they are from New York living in London. Another colleague who was transferred from NY to London at the same time has two sons - Freddie and Hugo. I think that pairing is even posher! Thoughts?

If I met a parent with children called felix and Caspar than yes I would immediately think posh posh posh.

But then I think Sebastian is a posh name, and every other boy seems to be called that who I've met, so what do I know.

TheLightSideOfTheMoon · 20/10/2023 22:04

Freddie and Hugo are REALLY mismatched. Unless it’s sort for Alfred I wouldn’t say Freddie was posh - quite the opposite.

Felix and Caspar are obviously her cats. I think you misheard.

Moomoomo · 20/10/2023 22:11

I'd think very middle class rather than posh.

Both quite unappealing names really. Felix is a cat and Casper is a ghost! Probably also clouded by the fact that I knew a Felix and he was a nightmare.

RandomUsernameHere · 20/10/2023 22:14

I absolutely love Felix and Casper/Caspar.

Redlarge · 20/10/2023 22:22

Id feel really sorry for the poor kids

thesnailandthewhale · 20/10/2023 22:23

I'd assume they were kittens

SleepingStandingUp · 20/10/2023 22:24

Felix and Casper, quite post, yes.
Hugo, quite posh, yes.
Freddie, really not posh.

purser25 · 20/10/2023 22:31

Not posh but cats names

Walnuthhwip · 20/10/2023 22:45

Felix and Caspar are middle class, but less so as they’re from America, and they have different naming conventions there.

Hugos parents are posh or trying to be posh.

Freddie is quite run of the mill and I don’t think it indicates a class.

Delphigirl · 20/10/2023 22:46

Cats

my best ever cat was Caspar

I'd assume they were kittens

Me too! Lovely names, but definitely a pair of kittens.

TokyoSushi · 20/10/2023 22:52

Even the word sibset is posh!

Xmasbaby11 · 20/10/2023 22:54

All really posh! I don’t hear any of those names and they’d stand out for being posh where I am.

HorsingAround2022 · 20/10/2023 22:54

I'd assume they were pedigree cats

theduchessofspork · 20/10/2023 22:55

They are all popular now

Would have been posh 30 years ago, not now.

MolkosTeenageAngst · 20/10/2023 22:59

I wouldn’t think posh. Posh people call their kids classic names like William, George, Edward etc. I’d think middle class/ yummy mummy types who want to think they’re posher than they are. The type of parents whose kids are in Mini Boden and go to private school but who aren’t from generations of wealth and power.

Hbh17 · 20/10/2023 23:00

What do you mean by "posh"? That's a very downmarket word. As mentioned, probably quite middle-class, but there's nothing wrong with that. I think they're lovely names. People dan choose whatever names they like, I don't see the problem.

Jewelspun · 20/10/2023 23:33

I have a Felix and a Caspar!

One is my son and the other is a Belgian Shepherd dog!

Theredfoxfliesatmidnight · 20/10/2023 23:34

I would say those names are "aspirational" rather than posh!! Being nice 😁

Lolaisacat · 20/10/2023 23:37

My DS was at a well known boys boarding school, Felix and Casper were very popular names. Also there was often 3 boys called Hugo in each lesson. Every family with 2)3 boys always had a Hugo.

Lolaisacat · 20/10/2023 23:39

Tobias was another favorite 😊

Sunflowers1999 · 21/10/2023 02:09

Really interesting, thanks everyone for your thoughts! And interesting to hear that Freddie isn’t considered posh, I’m not sure why I’ve always thought it was!

felix and caspar are both loony toon cartoon characters.

on is a cat and the other a ghost.
i doubt many people would remember them.

CurlewKate · 21/10/2023 03:52

My immediate thought is spelling mistake!
But even if they are posh-who cares?

angsanana · 21/10/2023 05:47

Felix and Caspar - really chavvy names.
Hugo - posh
Freddie - both!
