Lucas or Liam

Struggling to decide between these two and need ideas for middle name. Surname is six letters so want to stick to a shortish and modern middle name. We have no family names that we like.

Liam is short for William, would you use William to start with ?

No it isn’t, it’s short for the Irish name Uilliam.

Reported you jenpil, disgusting language. I used to like Lucas, until someone mentioned it rhymes with mucus.

Robotalkingrubbish · 09/10/2023 00:13

I much prefer Luke.

I have a Lucas James 🥰

LambMomo · 09/10/2023 11:49

Neither. Luke or Luca.

Lucas feels overused.

BoleynMemories13 · 09/10/2023 20:06

Lucas is lovely.

I've never been a fan of Liam and it feels quite dated now after a boom in the 90s/00s. I don't actually know any under the age of about 16 (although that might make it appeal to you? We're all different).

MrsDanversChickenSandwich · 09/10/2023 20:16

Both are good names.

I know so many lovely Liams. It's such a classic name in Ireland. He could be any age from 1 to 100.

But in the UK Irish names go through definite trends. Siobhán in the 80s, Conor and Liam in the 00s. Now they're into Rory and Maeve.

No doubt those will be 'rough' names 20 years from now too...

Lifeofasd1 · 09/10/2023 20:21

Neither are "rough" as previous poster said,
I would prefer Lucas as there seems to be a lot of "Liam's" around. He would be one of 3 or 4 Liam's when starting school...similar to the girls name "Mia" at the moment, there are five "Mia's" in my sons class.

MollyMarples · 09/10/2023 20:21

NJMAd · 08/10/2023 22:11

Both are 'rough' names in my experience.

But Lucas is the better of the two.

Agree

Twoshoesnewshoes · 09/10/2023 20:25

Liam

as pp noted, Lucas rhymes with mucous and I went to college with a mucous Lucas / Lucas Pukus

pumpkinspicedbogroll · 09/10/2023 21:11

I much prefer Liam. Not keen on names with the Loo sound.

Anothernamechange3 · 09/10/2023 21:14

Liam, but either is fine.

Bournetilly · 09/10/2023 21:16

What about Luca or Luke? I agree I think Lucas is rough.
If not then definitely Liam.

Cowlover89 · 09/10/2023 21:36

Lucas

Daisybuttercup12345 · 09/10/2023 22:50

Lucas.
I like Lewis too.

TwoBigNoisyBoys · 09/10/2023 22:55

Well, I have a Liam so I’m going to suggest that 😊 I had no idea I’d called my son a ‘rough’ name, though…! What does that even mean?!

Jeelypieces20storeys · 09/10/2023 23:06

Liam. Lucas is too close to Mucus for me.

theduchessofspork · 09/10/2023 23:38

Lucas

Liam is a bit low end

uncomfortablydumb53 · 10/10/2023 01:01

I can confirm that my 22 year old Lucas has never been called " Lucas Puke us" or " Lucas mucous" Nor is it a " rough" name
I call him " Lukes" sometimes

AutumnColours9 · 10/10/2023 01:02

Lucas definitely. I don't like any names with 'um' in
