They are both unusual for babies, but I favour Melvyn.

Does the asker in question have pregnancy brain? I came up with some real shockers while pregnant which were serious contenders. I look back now and shudder. Bet he ends up being called Matthew.

I really like both names. Our baby DS is called Mervyn. I figure if he hates it at school, he can always be Vynnie/Vinnie.

Sure it's old-fashioned, but IMO it's lovely - much better than Archie, which is really old-fashioned, but seems to be a top-10 name now! Name associations change.
