Malachi Francis?

We’re expecting DS2 next month and finally seem to have decided on the name Malachi Francis. DS1 is called Asa Charles and I like that both names have a biblical first name and a more classic middle name. I just want to find out peoples opinions and make sure there aren’t any bad connotations before we go through with the name. Thank you :)

I love the name Malachi and the shortening of Mal too (although I usually associate this with Malcolm). I think Malachi Francis is both unusual and classic enough to work well. The only issue I can see is the initials M F but this wouldn’t be super obvious I don’t think.

Fair play to you @bucketlistice for remaining calm and gracious despite these snotty comments (‘socially aspirational’ Hmm). Malachi Francis is a great name and if you still like it despite the unpleasantness of pp then it’s definitely the one.

Think some people are thinking of Malachy..ending in e sound which l hate...and not your lovely name of Malachi ..ending in an I. I love it. Know one little guy with that name and always thought it's just suits him perfectly. He has a brother Isaac. Great names. No one ever shortens it ..l think. So few people even know someone's second name that the Francis bit doesn't even matter. Go for it.

@bucketlistice I have a Malachi and I absolutely love the name. He was always going to be a Malachi. I'm in Ireland where he sometimes gets called Malachy (Malakee) but he corrects them and (Malakai).
Malachi means "angel/messenger" and pairing it with his middle name means "angel of light". Not sure if I will pair it with Francis but I see the connection with Asa Charles and if you love it that's all that matters.

Interestingly our first is Malachi and second is Asher so keeping the Hebrew/ biblical theme like you!

Someone mentioned Mal, malarkey etc but Malcolm is sometimes shortened to Mal. There are so many movies with names of villains but that hasn't stopped people from using them. And I guess you can use it if you're not aspirational (no notions sur 😂).

I haven't come across any Malachi's and we're in Ireland. The only Malachy I came across was when I was pregnant with Malachi 10 years ago and she was a woman.

He gets loads of compliments from all circles being a Hebrew name with an Arabic (Malakhiah) and Swahili (Malaika) slant. If he was a girl he would have been called Malaika, that is how much I love the name.
All the best, and I love Asa btw!

Malachi Francis is a good choice.

flowers789 · 17/09/2023 12:49

Nothing wrong with Malachi Francis.

Wow some people in here with their comments. Just unnecessary. If you like it, go with it.

itsmyp4rty · 17/09/2023 12:53

Love Malachi but I've only even known girls named Frances, so to me Francis sounds very girly and I wouldn't use it for a boy.

Thank you, there were some rather harsh comments but as I say if they haven’t put us off then clearly is it the name for us.

Thank you, I’m glad to hear of someone who has used the name and has no regrets.

Malachi makes me think of the scary dodgy guy from Save the Last Dance. I know it's biblical but...

bucketlistice · 21/09/2023 19:11

Thank you again everyone, I’m happy to have heard peoples opinions and other than differences in personal taste there isn’t anything negative about the name so we will be using it. Thanks again for the help.

It's an interesting choice and I quite like it.

MyAnacondaMight · 21/09/2023 19:59

Both names are nice, but I would give at least one name that isn’t obviously religious.

Leelee37 · 17/10/2023 14:21

I am expecting next March (following two miscarriages) and I plan to use the name Malachy (ending ee sound) if baby is a boy. I have always loved this name and I like it as a nod to my partners Irish family members who are no longer with us. I created a poll on a website and got some horrible replies and people telling me it was spelled and pronounced wrongly and my child would be ridiculed :( I regret asking now, as much as I keep telling myself it doesn’t matter I can’t help but feel upset at how awful
some people feel the need the be in their replies.
I hope you haven’t been discouraged by your name choice and wish you all the best with your new son :) Xx

I really don't think those names go well together. Is Malachi a biblical name? I didn't know that.

It’s literally the name of one of the books of the bible, featuring the prophet Malachi 😂 So yeah a bit biblical. Haha. I like it OP! Both names are great. Very religious though (which I like).

I know a Malachi nickname Mac which I love 😍
