Hello,
Opinions welcome, thinking about using Evan for a baby girl. What does everyone think?

I don’t like it as a girls name. I’ve known some girls to be called Heaven (I don’t like that either) and I think if I heard the name Evan on a girl (because I think of it as a boys name) I would assume the name was actually Heaven and the person was dropping the ‘H’. That might just be me though.
I knew someone who had twins called Evan and Elle and it sounded so much like Heaven and Hell to me that my brain probably associates it more with Heaven than most! 😂

There are a few Evanne's in our primary school.

I think Evanne works for a girl and is nice.

sparkedsparkle · 06/09/2023 18:51

Change the spelling to Evanne.
During my childhood I knew girls called Teri and Jaimes
And a boy Kim

sparkedsparkle · 06/09/2023 18:52

Oh and a boy whose middle name was Vivian

Orangetattoo · 06/09/2023 18:53

I like it, thought Evan could be used for a boy or a girl anyway! Confused

KirstenBlest · 06/09/2023 18:57

@sparkedsparkle , Vivian is a man's name. I know a more male Kims than female.
@Orangetattoo , as I pp, it's a traditional anglicised Welsh form of John. Like John, it's a boy's name.

whatausername · 06/09/2023 18:57

It's a bit un-special. Quite a plain sound.

DappledThings · 06/09/2023 13:14

Silly. Use a girl's name. As silly as using James for a girl.

I actually disagree.

I think Evan is one of the few boys names that works for a girl (James definitely does not!!)

I quite like it.

KirstenBlest · 06/09/2023 19:01

@Crunchymum , I disagree with you, but Stevie, Billie and Frankie could work for a girl.

The world is your oyster, as far as naming your daughter is concerned.

But you want a boy's name for her. 🙄

It follows the sexist fad of giving a girl a boy's name.

You wouldn't give a boy a girl's name. Ask yourself why not, and reflect on the reasons.

Hardly a fad, one of my mum's friends is calling Evan and she's in her sixties

Inkypot · 06/09/2023 19:08

I actually really like it! It's unusual but without seeming like you're trying to be "yooonique". It's nice!

FuckingAnnoyed · 06/09/2023 22:17

Yvaine? Nicer in my opinion.

muchalover · 06/09/2023 22:22

One of my kids middle names is Evenhill. It's from generations back. I don't see Evan solely as a boys name.

We called the cat Zenobia (Bee) because a lot of women in the family had that name generations ago.

continentallentil · 06/09/2023 22:57

Why would you do that?

Just call her Evelyn or something

Beeswood · 06/09/2023 22:59

No

jazzyfips · 06/09/2023 23:59

Just no

HamBone · 07/09/2023 00:08

One of my friends ( in her 40’s) is called Evynn. I thought it was an unusual name/spelling, but I like it because she’s a lovely person!

Elspethelf · 07/09/2023 05:43

I love it

user1477391263 · 07/09/2023 05:53

Please, no.

It's a boy's name. It will get misheard as "Heaven." Names beginning with "Ev" (Eve, Eva, Evie, Evelyn, Everleigh etc.) have been done to death.

wizzbitt · 07/09/2023 06:10

I initially read it as Evian and thought NO! Evan is much better Grin

loveloveloveme · 07/09/2023 06:13

There is a girl in my sons nursery called Percy! 🤷🏻‍♀️🤷🏻‍♀️🤷🏻‍♀️

Squ1ggle · 07/09/2023 06:23

Its perfectly nice as a girls name, the only Evan I know is an adult female and it suits her perfectly

heartdog · 07/09/2023 06:56

I know of a 10 year old girl Evan, it suits her perfectly and she doesn't get teased as far as I know. It has a history of being a unisex name, this isn't stealing a boys name.

crumblingschools · 07/09/2023 06:59

For everyone who thinks it’s great to give girls boys names, would you be happy to be called James etc?
