Which name do you prefer for our soon to be born baby boy?

Aslan is a lion isnt he??

User63847484848 · 20/08/2023 20:39

Aslan - Lion from CS Lewis. Kind of hard to live up to!

continentallentil · 20/08/2023 20:51

Aslan would be somewhat weird here because of the Narnia books (and a bit of a burden given he was basically Christ)

Zeki - I think it’s better short for Ezekiel - but I appreciate that’s not the Turkish name..

Any other options?

OrangeBall87 · 20/08/2023 20:56

Okan was our other option for a long time too

Zeki is a stand-alone name, and - IMO - it’s far preferable to Ezekiel.

hellsbells99 · 20/08/2023 21:08

I have not heard the name Zeki before but I really like it

CurlewKate · 20/08/2023 21:09

Are you Turkish?

escapingthecity · 20/08/2023 21:12

Aslan is basically Jesus, and in the UK that's not really a name people use for their kids.

stickygotstuck · 20/08/2023 21:14

I like them both (and wouldn't let the Narnia association put you off. We let ourselves be put off by that with a girls' name and still regret it!).

But I really thing Okan has the edge. It's lovely.

WomanAtWork · 20/08/2023 21:14

I love Zeki.

Whataretheodds · 20/08/2023 21:16

No issues with either. Hadn't heard Zeki before. If people can't appreciate that Aslan is an established Turkish name as well as the name they know from CS Lewis then they're idiots.

SophieHope7 · 20/08/2023 21:17

Zeki is cute!

OrangeBall87 · 20/08/2023 21:24

@CurlewKate I'm Turkish and DH is half Turkish/half British, so basically Grin we live in the UK though

Both are fine. There are some depressingly ignorant comments on this thread. Aslan is a well known Turkish name and means lion. That’s the whole point of why CS Lewis used it.

user1492757084 · 21/08/2023 06:17

I like Zane, Leo and Zeki.

MrsChas · 21/08/2023 06:20

That's crazy these were the two names we were torn between in the middle (were also Turkish) we went with Aslan only because of the stronger meaning. 🧿

Natsku · 21/08/2023 06:38

I like Zeki better. Okan is nice too. Aslan will get misspelt a lot and associated with Narnia.

Ah op I think you should have mentioned that the names are Turkish in your opening post.
i didn’t realise until I read down the thread that they were Turkish and just thought someone was trying to be unique with these names.

Why should she have to? I’m not Turkish and I know these are Turkish names.

MerryChristmasToYou · 21/08/2023 10:42

@Neverseenbefore , because unless someone knows they are real names in a different country, they will think of Narnia.
