Hello! I'm currently looking for some international baby names. Could you kindly suggest some that are widely recognised and used across different cultures and countries, similar to Alexander and Maria. Thank you!

I prefer nature names like Lily or Iris as I find most so-called international names tend to be religious. Harder to find nature names for boys though.

LiquoriceAllsorts2 · 15/08/2023 13:03

Iris is pronounced differently in other countries

I love Adam. There are Muslims, Christians and Agnostics called Adam.

Anna, Maria (as you've already suggested) and Sofia/Sophia. All work with no/minimal changes in many different places! I have one of these names as my parents come from two different countries and we spent lots of my childhood in a third country, so they deliberately picked something that would work easily in all three.

For a boy, Leo?

What a fascinating list! I don't imagine Bin, Rong or Dung will catch on in the UK, but there are some nice suggestions. I met a young African Doris recently and didn't know it was such a popular name.

Our boys names are quite German so may not be appropriate!
