Ben as a name with a surname starting with D

Hello!

I love the name Benjamin (Ben) for short but our surname starts with a D and so I’m a bit worried that at school they’d be “Ben D” aka “bend” or “bendy”.

Am I worrying over nothing or is this a bit of a weird name? My husband brought it up because he thinks it’s an issue. I can’t decide.

Thanks 😊

Long as your last name isn’t Dover I’m sure it will be ok

LylaLee · 09/08/2023 14:33

In the nicest way, no one cares.

Unless ass pp said it is Dover. Or Den or something silly sounding.

stardust1994 · 09/08/2023 14:33

Hahaha no it’s not 😂 that’s hilarious though

Thanks @LylaLee, you’re right. I think I’ve thought about it way too much 😂

Ben Duckett didn't seem to have a problem. Don't worry about it! Xx

Thank you 😊

Now you've pointed it I've known a couple of Ben D's - it's literally never crossed my mind as an issue until this moment, so I really don't think you need to worry about it

stardust1994 · 09/08/2023 14:47

Thanks @Popcorn640! I don’t think I would have noticed it either if my husband hadn’t mentioned it but since then I’ve been questioning it.

DS has a friend called Willy P - don’t think the kids even particularly noticed.

Soubriquet · 09/08/2023 15:19

Yeah, I used to know a William Hare…his nickname was Pubes..

stardust1994 · 09/08/2023 15:33

Yeah see that is what I want to avoid 🤣

Kids being what they are having a surname beginning with T would be more of a worry. It’s fine.

CuntRYMusicStar · 09/08/2023 16:54

I suppose it would be a slightly bigger issue if there is more than one Ben in his class? My dd has been susie A (not actual name) for her entire school life as there has always been more than one child with her name.

find a child and ask them to come up with silly nicknames for the name you are thinking of if you're worried 😆

Yeah. My dd is Susie S and has a friend in her class as Susie C

If there are two Bens he'll be Ben D.

Maybe avoid if surname is something like Down, De Niro or Di Caprio

stardust1994 · 11/08/2023 16:48

Haha definitely! Thanks x
