Out of curiosity which do you prefer? Thanks.

I love Cecily. DH absolutely vetoed it for DD. It's a great name with a great history. I wanted it after Cecily Neville.

Radiodread · 10/08/2023 19:36

Cicely because I don’t like girls’ names that are derived from men’s names very much, and especially not ones derived from Cecil.

Motherhubbardscupboard · 10/08/2023 19:39

Cicely Saunders, founder of the hospice movement

bridgetreilly · 11/08/2023 12:54

My grandmother’s middle name was Cicely and I have always liked that.

groovergirl · 11/08/2023 14:40

I like them equally, and I'd put money on both names becoming popular in the next decade. They have a neatness and freshness that sounds right for now.

Love that Cicely is a herb! Mind you, I'm vegetarian and think Brassica would make a good name.

🤣 was my initial reaction as the first one looks like a misspelling - didn’t know it was a plant!
the second one 👍

Ketzele · 11/08/2023 14:49

Cicely

StellaOlivetti · 11/08/2023 14:50

I had this dilemma 25 years ago! We went for Cecily.

lastminutewednesday · 11/08/2023 15:03

Cicely is lovely.

peaceinourtime · 14/08/2023 03:22

Cecily reminds me of my grandma's old neighbour. I think it is a old lady sounding name.

Bestfootfwd · 08/10/2024 21:42

Cecily is very pretty. Cicely is just a little bit too close to sissy for me.

MerryChristmasToYou · 08/10/2024 21:53

Cess as a nn? Surname Pitt

Earlybird00 · 08/10/2024 22:03

Another option - Cicily pronounced the same as Sicily

MerryChristmasToYou · 08/10/2024 22:06

Sissilie?

MerryChristmasToYou · 08/10/2024 22:08

Esissillie,so she can have more nn options.

MerryChristmasToYou · 08/10/2024 22:08

Essissilleigh?

MerryChristmasToYou · 08/10/2024 22:10

Assisi-Leigh cos it's dead klassy innit.

Gymmum82 · 08/10/2024 22:10

Cecily. We almost chose it for DD but husband didn’t love it

Hobbesmanc · 08/10/2024 22:16

I love the old fashioned gentle C names and I think they will be really popular soon. Cecily. Cecile. Celine. Cicely. Cybil. Celia. Cecelia. Celeste.

MagicianMoth · 08/10/2024 22:21

Cicely. It reminds me of Northern Exposure.

minipie · 08/10/2024 22:23

Either is great

Cicely may end up being spelled Sicily a lot.

MockCroc · 10/10/2024 15:14

I have a 10 year old with middle name Cecily (DH wouldn't let me use it for a first name - too "ssssssssss" apparently). But she likes it and so do I. I like Cicely too
