For a girl (obviously). Thoughts?

Really bad

Joolsin · 24/07/2023 22:33

Love it, so very much prettier than the ubiquitous Olivia/Eva/Ava, which are utterly boring. Also, it reminds me of the main character in my favourite movie, Little Miss Sunshine.

Daisybuttercup12345 · 24/07/2023 22:45

Ugly name. Makes me think of grumpy old ladies and Popeye.
Yet I like Olivia.

toastofthetown · 24/07/2023 23:03

I’m very close to an Olive who absolutely hates her name. She finds it harsh sounding and frumpy.

RitzyMcFitzy · 24/07/2023 23:08

We all have different tastes but it's one of those names where I'm always a bit baffled when people describe it as beautiful. I find it drab and frumpy. Nothing positive to say about it.

continentallentil · 25/07/2023 01:09

Nice in a salad
Not for a person

Olwen?

mathanxiety · 25/07/2023 01:39

I can't get past Oyl.

I can't get past Oyl.

I'm old enough to remember Olive from On The Buses so it has always seemed an old fashioned, frumpy name.
Thinking of the colour didn't help because it's such a dull shade of green.

But this year, I have got to know a little girl called Olive. She's absolutely beautiful and is also kind and gentle so now I associate the name with her.

Associations change over time and through personal connections.

cariadlet · 25/07/2023 01:44

I didn't mean to quote anyone so don't know what happened there. 🤷🏻‍♀️

DaisyThistle · 24/07/2023 20:46

Not keen. It's a murky green or a salty snack. Also makes me think of Olive Oil, Popeye's girlfriend.

I like a lot of nature names but not this one.

But if you love it, go for it. A stranger's taste doesn't matter at all.

This.

Olivia is much more elegant. Don't give her a frump name.

Copperoliverbear · 25/07/2023 02:08

Love it. X

Pemba · 25/07/2023 04:47

'Drab and frumpy' as a pp puts it is spot on. I can't imagine why it seems to be fashionable atm.

Olivia is lovely though.

WandaWonder · 25/07/2023 04:54

No it's too hard for me as in the word is hard, Olivia and Oliver I prefer if I had too

gjg · 25/07/2023 08:05

I love it !

TealSapphire · 25/07/2023 08:27

Absolutely love it.

Second only to Pearl.

KirstenBlest · 25/07/2023 09:46

Olivia is much nicer but agree that Olivia, Ava, Eva etc have been overused.
Olive seems drab, and makes me think of an oily fruit or Olive from On the Buses.

MrsSkylerWhite · 25/07/2023 09:47

On the Buses. That’s my age, though 😁

peaceinourtime · 26/07/2023 01:28

Olive is really nice. I like it a lot. Its a lot more refreshing then Olivia of which there are tons.

Wallawallakoala · 26/07/2023 01:29

Really love it!!

CalmDownBoris72 · 26/07/2023 20:35

Really love it.

35andThriving · 27/07/2023 21:07

I like it.

Olive in Easy A is a nice character which I think make me like it more. An anagram of "I love".

LittleButtercup · 31/07/2023 10:08

I love the name Olive, much prefer it to Olivia which is so popular.

Don't agree with it being a frumpy name at all, it is a beautiful, strong name!

Anothermam · 31/07/2023 11:28

I think it's really cute as a middle name on a little girl I know, Elsie Olive

Epicstorm · 31/07/2023 11:34

I don’t like it. It reminds me of Popeye’s girlfriend and Olive in On the Buses.
I know of two recent Olives though so I suspect it’s becoming more popular.

Doesn’t matter what anyone else thinks if you like it. No one can chose a name everyone likes.

Anewuser · 31/07/2023 11:39

Doesn’t matter what a load of randoms think, if you like it, use it.

but since you’ve asked…. Awful, old fashioned name. I had an auntie Olive and she was a miserable old cow. Associate it with dogs now, had 2 Olives at our puppy training class alone.
