Baby girl is due soon, which do you prefer?
Surname is fairly common two syllable name.

Primrose

Booter21 · 24/07/2023 19:35

Primrose was Harold Shipman's wife's name and I couldn't get past it. But I'm old.

ChildrenOfTheQuorn · 24/07/2023 22:05

Primrose. I don't think Fleur will sound nice in most regional accents. Maybe if you're super posh and it sounds a bit like "Flah".

Both awful!

I agree about the accents with Fleur although I do prefer it to Primrose. I think Rose is nicer.

JustinCase23 · 24/07/2023 23:18

Thanks for the replies. I appreciate they’re not everyone’s taste but no name is universally liked! And we do like both names. It has been nice to see other people do too, but it has been an eye opener regarding how Fleur could sound in different accents.

Neither of us knew who Harold Shipman was and regardless there have been plenty of Teds, Jacks, Jefferys and Johns who appear to live without serial killer associations.

TooOldForThisNonsense · 24/07/2023 23:23

Fleur

Primrose is terrible

GinBlossom94 · 24/07/2023 23:30

Primrose - is Fifi and The Flowertots still in kids tv? That's what it makes me think of

Fleur - just a bit meh

AdaColeman · 24/07/2023 23:45

Fleur, because it's a fabulous name!

pinkpanther84 · 24/07/2023 23:57

I have a Fleur, so obviously biased, but I think it's the most beautiful name and suits a baby right though to an adult 😍

Deadringer · 24/07/2023 23:59

When I look at Fleur I imagine Cilla Black saying it for some reason, and it ain't pretty, so that would put me off. Primrose is OK.

Topazbutterfly · 25/07/2023 00:11

My favourite is Primrose, I think it's a lovely name

Sequinsandfrills · 25/07/2023 00:35

I don't think even super posh would pronounce it "Flah"!

It'll always rhyme with "Purr".

Me too.

I much prefer Primrose. Fleur sounds more like a sound than a name. Like, Bleugh/eurgh/urgh.

continentallentil · 25/07/2023 00:39

Neither.. how bout Flora or just Rose?

Fleur sounds like someone being sick to me and Primrose is just so.. prim

InstantGratificationDarkPlaygroundOfMN · 25/07/2023 00:57

DaftyLass · 25/07/2023 01:36

Fleurette is a family name I quite like, meaning little flower

JamSandle · 25/07/2023 01:46

Primrose. Just gorgeous.

mathanxiety · 25/07/2023 02:59

I'm thinking of Made in Chelsea (or the Princesses from 'the Windsors') who drop the last consonant of every other word 🤣 Although now someone has said Cilla Black I can't help but hear it in her accent...

RuthW · 25/07/2023 17:29

Love both but Primrose I think
