I am having my second baby boy. Husband's name is Lewis, as is my first son's middle name. Would it be weird to call our next son Louis? It's pronounced differently to Lewis and obviously spelt differently, but I'm worried people will think we just have no imagination!

Yes I think they are far too similar. I would definitely go with something else and give the baby his own identity.

MerryChristmasToYou · 22/07/2023 20:07

Fine for father and son. They're different names, not variations of the same name.

PickledScrump · 22/07/2023 22:33

Personally I’d say too similar.

Whatisityoucantface · 22/07/2023 22:50

Hum… they’re similar BUT as your son gets older this will matter less I think as people are hardly likely to ask him what his fathers name is.
How about Laurie (Laurence) if you like Louis?

wineschmine · 22/07/2023 22:57

I think it's a bit odd.

Lewis would be fine though, just calling him after his dad.

But I feel Lewis and Louis sound so similar but are so different (one Scottish, one French) that it just jars a bit.

Thanks all. We're a bit stuck for a name but useful to have your opinions so thank you for replying

There’s nothing wrong with it, people just might comment on it sometimes

It’s no different from a mother called Louise with a daughter Lucy

Fivemoreminutes1 · 23/07/2023 14:15

Just a word of warning, my DS shares initials with my DH and it’s very annoying when the post arrives! They always end up opening each other’s post.

Daphnis156 · 23/07/2023 17:28

Does "Louis" get pronounced "Lewis" sometimes?

But both are good names.

GoodVibesHere · 23/07/2023 17:36

It will be a right pain calling upstairs to get Louis down for tea and Lewis thinks you're calling him. There are so many names to choose from, I'd pick something different.

leedsmum21 · 23/07/2023 18:20

Thanks - we already have 8 boys under 5 in the family and names we like have already been used for cousins. Generally we like quite traditional names. I know there are lots to choose from but we're finding we're not agreeing on any! I liked Frederick, shortened to Freddie, and my husband liked George. I'm just not enjoying trying to come up with a name this time round!

OK how about Luke, or Lucas?

user1492757084 · 24/07/2023 09:56

Louis is fine particularly if you both agree.

stewinbeard · 25/07/2023 22:11

I think it's totally fine

mathanxiety · 25/07/2023 22:19

I think Louis would be perfectly fine.

How about Leo?
