Violet or Sylvie/Silvie

Which is your favourite and why? 😊
Ive been set on Violet but thought of Silvie today and I love it.
Middle name is Kate

Sylvie is lovely.

Not keen on Violet, just don't really like it and it's very overdone now.

ChrisPPancake · 22/07/2023 07:52

I don't like Violet much. I think because it sounds quite harsh?

Sylvia is an old lady name to me but Sylvie is a cool young French actress type.

Hazelnuttella · 22/07/2023 07:56

I love Sylvie, it’s on my list.

I’ve never managed to get on board with the love for Violet… I can’t look at it without seeing violent. But I know I’m very much in the minority.

GreenAventurine · 22/07/2023 08:27

So tough. Seems to be kind of equal here too!

I like Violet and prefer it to Sylvie. But I really like Sylvia and prefer it to both.

I prefer Silvie.
Silvie Kate is sweet.

I more so like..
Sabine Kate
Silvine Kate
Sandrine Kate

Violet. I think Sylvia is ugly. Silvie looks like Silkie. Sylvie is dated.

Arewehumanorarewecupboards · 22/07/2023 11:30

I have a Sylvie (mid twenties). It suits her. The comments about her name on here are similar to responses that she/we get in real life.

Violet is pretty too.

GreenAventurine · 22/07/2023 16:46

The vile and violent comments have put me off Violet even more 😂
All I can hear I’d violent late now. Also, there’s a new girl starting at the school I work at called Violet in september - I feel like it’s cropping uk everywhere.

Sylvie however has grown on me even more. I don’t get old lady- I get whimsical…

I was SO set on Violet. But Sylvie has the edge atm.

Violet

ButtonMoonBlanketSky · 22/07/2023 21:43

Sylvia Kate and call her Sylvie.

Waferbiscuit · 22/07/2023 21:52

Sorry not Sylvia or Sylvie. We had a girl at school named Sylvia and she was regularly called 'Saliva' and unfortunately that's now all I hear.

Violet is timeless and elegant.

GreenAventurine · 23/07/2023 10:37

Sylvia isn’t an option really. She would be Sylvie, I don’t get saliva from Sylvie but Sylvia I can see.
Ive looked into the meaning behind Sylvie and I love it (of the forest).

Violey is firmly off the table now guys. That’ll teach me from getting personalised stuff 😂😂

Love Sylvia/Sylvie.

ZZpop · 23/07/2023 11:24

I like Sylvie. Nice meaning and suits a girl/woman of any age.

Awwlookatmybabyspider · 23/07/2023 17:02

I prefer Violet but not with Kate. While both lovely names separately Violet Kate sounds very harsh. Silvie Kate just rolls off the tongue.

raquelwelsh · 23/07/2023 18:14

Sylvie sounds like a lovely ethereal name. Like a woodland fairy 🧚‍♂️ Really pretty name!

BinkyBeaufort · 24/07/2023 12:53

Talking of Corrie, I couldn't call a child Ivy

ImaginingDragonz · 24/07/2023 12:58

Love Sylvie. Don't like your other spelling of it. It sounds ethereal but also classy.

GreenAventurine · 24/07/2023 18:52

Yes we would spell it Sylvie x
